When Kellie Pickler hit the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards in a sexy body-hugging sequined number, everyone stopped to stare. But it turns out, the world almost missed out on seeing the stunning Jean Fares creation. And it’s all because of Dancing With the Stars.
Let us explain: Pickler revealed to PEOPLE at the awards show Wednesday night that she had planned to sport the gown to the ACM Awards back on May 17. “I didn’t know it at the time I picked out this dress to wear [to the ACMs] that I was going to go on Dancing With the Stars.”
Since she couldn’t miss her DWTS appearance (and it’s a good thing she didn’t, considering she went on to win the mirror ball), the Jean Fares ended up sitting in her closet, unused. But when it came time to choose her ensemble for the CMTs, rather than going back to the drawing board, she said, “You know what? Let’s save the hassle of looking for anything. I want to wear that dress.”
Pickler gushed, “I love this dress. I don’t think I’ve worn anything like this. I love the color, I love the cut.” And despite what you might think of a fully sequined, floor-length, open-back gown, it was actually comfortable. “I can breathe in it,” she added. “It’s really stretchy material.”
She may be crazy about the gown, but that’s not the only reason she was grinning all night. Pickler also told us, “I’m just in a happy place right now. Regardless of what I’m wearing, I think I’d have a smile on my face.”
What do you think of the gown? Are you glad Pickler decided to break it out for the CMTs?
