Tabatha's Takeover: What's Up With This "Melting Mermaid" Dress, Eva Longoria?

We all know Tabatha Coffey, Bravo’s sharp-tongued Aussie style pro, from her newest show, Tabatha Takes Over, which is in its fifth season! And now, she’s bringing her talents online, joining us at PEOPLE StyleWatch each week to dish on some of the bestand worst – celebrity looks of the week. Keep in mind the opinions below belong solely to the stylist … though she’s probably saying what lots of you are thinking, anyway!

Today, she discusses Eva Longoria, who Coffey thinks may have rubbed Ursula the Sea Witch the wrong way.

Dear Eva,

Let me start by saying you usually look fabulous and know how to dress for your petite frame to create the perfect proportion.

My question is: “What happened?” You look like a mermaid who washed up on shore and her glittery scales are disappearing before our very eyes. What is left is a confusing cutout that looks like it’s been decorated with crystal gel window decals.

The dress cuts you off in all the wrong places, making you look short and choppy. Perhaps in a shimmery gold this would elongate your stature, but not in navy blue.

And what about the curtain trim at the bottom? That’s a trip and fall waiting to happen. Did they mean to leave that piece on?

Even with the melting mermaid dress gone awry, your makeup and hair are stunning. The bold eyes are balanced beautifully with the neutral cheeks and lips. Your hair is coiffed with just enough height and your jewels are gorg!

Eva would look pretty even in a sack, this Tabitha chick looks like a man…go figure!

Allison- I totally agree. I see this on someone like Heidi Klum. She would make it look amazing, much like the runway model did, I’m sure. Eva is just too short to pull this one off.

That dress is a hot mess. She is a beatiful woman but this dress makes her look short and squat…like a fancy sack of potatotes.

I think this dress would look better, without the top cutout. If that we’re covered, it’d be really pretty! Otherwise it’s just too much going on.

i have a lot of money, but not a lot of common sense. i buy clothes and i know that i will be seen my millions, photographed continuously, yet I fail to look good, instead I look like joke . . . who am I?

I agree with her until she said the navy color wasn’t flattering. I think it would have been beautiful if the designer had finished the dress or just left that sheer mess off of the bottom. It looks like the designer got lazy!

Tabatha,
Eva looks fine. I cannot say the same for you. One can look edgy without looking as though they stepped out of the “Matrix,” no? You are far too hard on other people for one so challenged yourself. The false eyelashes are too much and you are too pale. I do enjoy your show, but you really need to ease up a bit. You look too much like a parody of yourself quite frequently. One can command respect without overdoing it, don’t you think?

My question is why is this has-been still being invited to red carpet events?

I think the big cutout rectangle on the front makes her look really boxy. And yeah, the curtain trim isn’t helping either.

what happened is that Eva is a 40ish actress who has no leading ladies status in H’wood. That said, she’ll do anything to get noticed in the press and what better way than dressing ridiculous..
