Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop On Red Nails, White Pumps and '80s Updos

In our weekly round-up of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we saw a lot of white pumps and red nails — and to complete our 1980s flashback, we saw one very elaborate updo straight out of ’87 that made us glad we’re in 2013.
Up: Red nails. Neutral nails? Not this week. We saw bright red talons on everyone from Zoë Saldana to Katy Perry to Florence Welch (not to mention Julianne Hough, above). We tend to reach for the bright pinks and light purples during the spring, but love the way a racy bright red hue revs up a more formal look.
Up: White pumps. We’re still not sure we’re sold on this trend, but half of Hollywood (including Christina Ricci) apparently disagrees with us. Within the last week, we saw the look on at least five stars, all in very different attire, which could be just the push we need to give the look a shot. It may not be worth laying out mega-bucks on a pair, but there’s no denying they lend a fresh edge to jeans and dresses.
Down: Overdone updos. We love Dynasty as much as the next person (so: a lot), but Kate Moss‘s tribute may be a touch too literal. The fur, the jewels and that majorly flippy, curled and teased look are a little aging on the perpetually ageless supermodel — and if even Kate Moss can’t pull it off, it’s not a look we’d recommend for most people.
