Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Bright Lips, Long Dresses and Easing Up on the Bronzer

In our weekly round-up of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we noticed that stars were really into bright lips and long dresses. And with one notable exception, celebs were really enjoying playing up their natural complexions.

Up: Bright lips. Stars are all about reaching for the brights in their lipstick collection these days. Charlize Theron‘s hot pink pout was just one of many enviable star lip shades we saw, including Ashley Madekwe’s fuchsia and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s rich raspberry.

Up: Ankle-length dresses. Emmy Rossum (in Tory Burch) joined stars including Julianne Hough (in A.L.C.) and Jessica Biel (wearing Tom Ford) in a club of celebs who are picking dresses that are not quite midi and not quite maxi, but rather have a tea-length, ankle-grazing hem. This look is best attempted with heels to avoid looking too stumpy — but the finished effect is elegant and ladylike.

Down: Overdoing it on the bronzer. Kelly Osbourne has a stunning, peaches-and-cream complexion, so we couldn’t guess why she went quite so golden for the E! upfronts. This week, we saw many more stars embracing their naturally pale skin tone (from Emma Roberts to January Jones) and we’re loving the natural rosy glow.

For more on which trends to follow, check out our thoughts on funky pants and mixing brights.

You should embrace who you are naturally. Being “tan” by going out in the sun isn’t worth getting skin cancer for. And most bronzers and self tanners make people look orange. Use sunscreen and protect yourself!

Reblogged this on My Take on Life.

I see anyone with a tan I think to myself “Enjoy getting wrinkles before you ever needed to” LOL I’ll embrace my translucent paleness and wrinkle free skin thanks! And Kelly, honey, the hair was hilarious for a week. Now it’s just plain sad.

When I was a teen, I was always criticized by my friends for not wanting to “lay out” and tan with them. I’m naturally pale. Now, at 48 I have beautiful wrinkle free skin and look like I’m in my early 30’s. At my last high school reunion, I couldn’t believe how much older my high school friends looked!! I’m having the last laugh now!! It’s good to know that pale is popular now!

The combination of purple hair and spiked headband makes Kelly look like she’s from outer space. Time to try another hair color.

It seems after a certain age, I am not sure what age, women don’t look as good with bright red lips, they look even older. Still beautiful, just older to me. As much as I have loved red lips, this is hard to say :(

I’m not into bright lipstick colors myself but I don’t enjoy a touch of bright eyes. And to those complaining about Kelly’s hair color, she signed a contract with E! saying she couldn’t change her hair color for quite some time. Why you would sign a contract like that is beyond me however she did has answered questions about it and stated she is also tired of the purple but can’t do anything about it til her contract is up.

Kelly is far from peaches and cream. She’s orange. Like George Hamilton orange
