Red Carpet Trend Report: Kicky Jackets, Yellow Dresses and Letting Our Hair Down

This week’s hottest trends were all about lightening (and loosening) up for spring.

Up: Cute Jackets. What do you do, clothing-wise, on a spring day that ranges from 30° to 75° within a few hours? If you’re a celeb like, say, Michelle Williams (above left, in Kate Young for Target), January Jones, Nikki Reed or Olivia Palermo, you plan a whole outfit around your favorite blazer or duster. No more hiding them under a coat — now’s the time to show them off!

Down: Perfect updos. Angelina Jolie‘s sedate bun, without a hair out of place, is very pretty (and event-appropriate) but fewer stars are wearing such staid hairstyles on the red carpet these days. You’re much more likely to see loose waves or bedhead-y blowouts.

Up: Yellow dresses. We saw this sweet, sunny hue on stars including Olivia Wilde (above, in Monique Lhuillier), Kate Mara and Olivia Palermo (yes, again). Yellow can be tricky to wear, but we may not be able to resist working it into our wardrobe in small doses.

I don’t think it’s fair to critique Angelina Jolie’s hair, she was addressing the G8 about wartime rape. Rather of fact, it’s downright tacky for you to mention it.

I don’t know why it’s even an issue what her hair looks like regardless of what she’s doing.

Can’t stand the bed-head look. No matter how lovely the person is, it just looks like the forgot to comb their hair. When did sloppy, dirty looking hair become a fashion statement?

Seriously, who do we write to about this business of People becoming just another glossy? This “trend report” is so ridiculous. I’m sure Angelina would have warranted many pats on the back addressing the G8 with a “bedhead-y blowout”

This new tacky mag spin on celebrity news is really unfitting to most of your loyal readers. Blech.

To be fair they wrote that it was event appropriate for her. I think they were just using her as an example of the style. Which, they were wrong to do in my opinion. There are many other celebs they could have used from an actual red carpet.

They may be using Angelina’s hair as an example, but if you are going to put examples of red carpet looks, then use red carpet looks… It would be the same as using Brittany Spears grocery shopping in Uggs. First she wears those grocery shopping and second she covers up her plaque psoriasis. Let’s just keep apples vs. apples if we do this type of article.
