Kaley Cuoco's Red Carpet Tip: 'If You're Going With Bangs or a Black Eye - Go With the Black Eye'

Kaley Cuoco is used to receiving accolades, but after wearing controversial bangs to the 2013 SAG Awards, the actress learned how it feels to be panned.

“I got reamed a new A-hole,” The Big Bang Theory star, 27, told PEOPLE on Wednesday at The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo’s Most Powerful Stylists luncheon. “I will never do that again! That was my faux pas, and because of that, they hated everything: the [Romona Keveza] dress, my shoes, everything.”

She swears the bangs were supposed to serve a purpose: “I had a black eye, so we were trying to hide it,” she says. “Next time, if you’re going with a black eye or bangs, go with the black eye.”

But at the time she made the decision, there was no stopping her.

“I know what I want, so even if everyone said ‘Bangs don’t look great,’ I loved them,” she said at the West Hollywood Soho House event, dressed in a colorful McGinn ensemble. “I think that on the carpet, they read worse than they did at home … I just accepted it and made fun of myself and moved on. You show up at the next one and you look fabulous and fine and they make fun of someone else.”

And the mishap certainly does not reflect poorly on her stylist, Tara Swennen, who’s No. 24 on the Hollywood Reporter top stylists ranking.

“She has changed my career and life – not only as a friend, but she’s also an amazing mentor,” Cuoco said of her date for the lunch. “Before I started working with a stylist, I used to think I could do it all on my own, but no matter how much fashion you have in your brain and what you feel you know about your body, it is nice to have help.”

Controversial bangs? How VAIN are the people who critized her over HAIR? A naked streaker at a park is controversy. A politician writing a cheque to themselves from public funds is controversy. An opinion about abortion is controversy. Hair? These Hollywood types have no life!

Her hairstyle looks like a modern-day Elvira. Bangs wouldn’t look so bad with a different style.

It’s funny, I agree with another commenter. The hair looked fake, like a wig. Regardless, I love Kaley and am pleased to see that she doesn’t take things too seriously :) I hope Big Bang last for a dozen more seasons.

Kaley is adorable no matter how she wears her hair!

It looked like a wig but I’ve seen a lot worse. I don’t see what the big deal is.

TT on

It wasn’t the bangs. It was the horribly fake looking wig.

I think the bangs look just fine on her. I don’t see anything wrong with them. Overall, she looks good either way.

First I want to say how much I admire Kaley’s work. I first Took notice of her in eight simple rules. She is an awesome actress and makes Big Bang theory a success. However, the red carpet doesn’t do any favors for her. She looks much better simply as a girl next-door. This is not a criticism just a fact. And those Priceline commercials with her wearing white don’t help either.
