From Gaga’s Golden Wheelchair to Demi’s Bedazzled Boot: How Stars Nurse Injuries — Stylishly

If you thought Lady Gaga would be recovering from her hip surgery like any other citizen — well, you obviously haven’t been paying enough attention.

After laying low for a few weeks to recover, the perpetually surprising singer rolled out her latest accessory — literally. She wheeled out of her N.Y.C. hotel (see the pic here) in a 24-karat gold-plated wheelchair created for her by jewelry designer Ken Borochov from Mordekai, whom she’d previously tapped to create a gold claw for her fragrance launch.

The chair features a tufted leather seat and a removable canopy, which is why Borochov said in a statement, “I was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen.”

Though Gaga considers herself a trailblazer, she’s not the first star this year to make a style statement out of her injury.

At the 2013 Oscars in February, Kristen Stewart added a pair of crutches to her Reem Acra gown, then completed the avant-garde look by wearing one Bloch flat on her injured foot and a Jimmy Choo heel on the other.

And Demi Lovato refused to let her cast keep her from looking cute last month, bedazzling it with funky studs to really dress the look up for London Fashion Week.

Tell us: What do you think of Gaga’s latest look?

@ emsythe-I just had a friend who was doing charity nursing work in India-a young man in his 20′s came in with a shattered pelvis, needed a life saving surgery BUT had to be sent to a public hospital because of funding. He died in the parking lot of the public hospital. There is a lot of screwed up things in this world, none of which I will ever understand.

Tacky and obscene. Just like Gaga herself.

Um, ok, you guys all know that Lady Gaga can do what she wants with her money, right? No need to be so antagonistic towards her. Geez, people these days, spending their time criticising people because they aren’t happy with themselves.

I know this is Lady Gaga, and this is just the kind of thing she does. Normally I just roll my eyes and move on to the next story, but I can’t help but feel that this time she’s really overstepped the limits of decency and sensitivity. Here in my country I know more than a couple of people who are handicapped and who would do anything to have access to a decent quality wheelchair, but can’t afford it. To see this woman parading around in a solid gold wheelchair is like a bad joke, I feel offended on behalf of those people. By all means, be different, make yourself the weirdest wheelchair you can conceive so no one mistakes you for a normal person for even a second, but is it really necessary to flaunt your wealth in such an insensitive manner?

@Scarlett Not all criticism stems from a need to compensate for a low self-esteem, and your generalization that anyone criticizing Gaga must only be doing so because they are unhappy with themselves only makes you seem as judgmental as you accused others of being. Believe it or not, sometimes people will criticize something or someone because they genuinely feel that it’s wrong. Gaga may have a right to do whatever she wants with her money, but that doesn’t make everything she does with her money right. Lady Gaga is in a position of power, where many people look to her as a role model, and just like anyone in that position she is (and should be) subject to much more scrutiny. The day people start letting those who are in a position to influence generations of people behave however they want without worrying what kind of message it’s sending to society, I think that’s the day we can say we truly gave up trying.

LOL THAT’S ACTUALLY HILARIOUS. Definitely a waste of money that could have been donated to charity, but either way that is actually really funny.
