She was one of the few Oscars guests who didn’t sing a tune, dance a few steps or clutch a trophy, but Michelle Obama’s surprise appearance during Sunday night’s awards show was still one of the most talked-about moments of the broadcast.

The First Lady appeared via video to announce the Best Picture Oscar, looking like she belonged on the Oscars’ Best Dressed List in a glittering, custom smoke gray Naeem Khan gown and Sutra Silver at Fragments jewelry. She wore her bangs straight down but pulled the rest of her hair back into a low bun.

Though it would have made our night if she had gotten dressed to the nines just to present the award from the White House, Obama actually was taking a quick break from hosting the Governors Dinner — so no word on what she thought of the Les Misérables performance or Seth MacFarlane’s hosting job.

Tell us: Were you surprised to see Michelle Obama? What did you think of her outfit?

GORGEOUS

suzy diamond on

Why, OH WHY……is THIS ADMINISTRATION being shoved down our throats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was OSCAR NIGHT NOT an EFFING POLITICAL RALLY!!!!!!!!!!! I’m So SICK to death of these people!

Canderson on

The first lady looked amazing in Naeem Khan. She always dresses with taste and class. Her appearance was so appropriate since several films were American historic stories. Brilliant!

Erin on

Poor Suzy Diamond. Your world is ending and there is nothing you can do about it!!! Yet, more to the point of this post – she looked lovely and appropriate and talked about the importance of arts in our culture and society. As First Lady, she is an ambassador for our country AND our culture, and I think her comments totally reflected that.

Jennifer on

She is always a first class lady in whatever she does.

Diana on

What a cheap shot…………. any reason whatsoever to get your face on camera again……even during an entertainment show. Sick of the crossing over of politics and Hollywood

condanchri on

I’m in agreement with Suzy – her ‘surprise’ appearance was unnecessary and inappropriate. 49% of this country (if not more) are sick & tired of this over-exposed administration. I thought the Oscars telecast was pretty good up to that point.

JoAnne on

Not a fan of their politics but i will admit, she is always gorgeous and her and the president are def the hottest pres and first lady ever.
Written by a die hard republican :)

emu on

pleasssseee…… enough with the bangs! They are tooooo heavy! and I agree, this is the Oscars….. not politics!!!!! and I”m not even American! Jeeez people!

Monya on

Yuck!

marie adams on

Susy Diamond,
I so agree. Do you think Susy that any other first lady would do this?, I don’t think so.
Obama’s, want to be rock stars…J Z and …

MrBlayze on

I was blown away I was soo excited. Who better than to seemingly downplay the exciting intruduction of the 1st lady than Mr Jack Nicholson I loved the entire show

Caroline on

I thought Obama’s appearance was tacky! She has NOTHING to do with the movies. Who were the creepy people behind her also? It should have been someone like Tom Hanks announcing the winner.

Julia Emry on

They could have done much better than that.

Get over it! on

She is the most stylish First Lady! And no she doesn’t look good cuz of someone else’s money ( to the idiot who said that)! Get over it people the majority chose the Obama administration! Swallow it and keep on moving. I am sure you will get your old, grandma looking First Lady next term.

Irina on

Doesn’t she have something more important to be doing? I don’t want to see the president or First Lady on talk shows or at the oscars, I want them to be working… they must have something better to do.

anita dumpson on

I think having the first lady annouce the winner was very nice. They are not in show business but as most of the movies were based on history i thought it was cool. She was dressed for the governors ball so all she had to do was step out for a few mins and she looked totally stunning.

Ivixen on

She looked very lovely, and I thought she was terribly out of place. She didn’t belong awarding the best picture Oscar. I wish the Obamas would stop wedding themselves with Hollywood.

V on

People seem to have forget that Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan were actors ….so politics and entertainment have always cross paths. Anyhow, I thought she looked beautiful.

Kay on

hey people who are clutching their pearls over the utter disgrace of our First Lady announcing the big winner — did you not hear what she said when she began? She noted how important the performing arts are to children – which just happens to be her big thing, you know all the children of the US. The Obamas, as well as most democrats, and that is probably why they asked her to present. Would you rather have a republican when it’s the republicans who have been trying to take away all support for the arts like the way they slashed public broadcasting? geesh, figure it out people, everything is political in this country

Traci on

All you haters!!!! The first lady looked beautiful….. and to the dummy who said that she needs to get a life…
Why don’t you get one!!!

anne on

The first lady was and is positively lovely! Very appropriate for her to be a part of the Oscar’s. Her presence on the show was a reflection of both history and our changing times. Please think outside the box people. Kudos to the Oscar folks for such a good decision and making such a powerful statement.

Sylvia Tarvers Weston on

Why was Mrs. Obama even involved with “Oscars”? I don’t get the whole Obama thing.

anonymous on

looked just gorgeous but i personally feel that the white house shouldnt be this involved in celebrity stuff and was inappropriate

Cozy•Stylish•Chic on

She looked amazing. Right up there with Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Hudson, Charlize Theron – some of the best dressed of the evening. Why so many negative people with negative comments out there??? There was a simple question- how did she look? And she looked great, end of story.

ds on

this family is just a waste of taxpayers money.

sas on

She was the ONLY good thing about the Oscars. Seth was boring and crass.

susan on

Hollywood, Democrats, same difference.

Sandra on

She is such a Hollywierd wanna be!!!!! She makes me sick.

Emma on

She has nothing to do with the film industry. She should not have been included. This was ridiculous.

Jen on

She does look nice, but there was no reason for her to make an appearance at the oscars..

RJR on

Her bangs are horrible and she really needs to fix those teeth. Other than that, she looks great:-P

hayeswat on

She looked lovely as always. Not sure how I feel about mixing tinsel town with politics. I just think there are more important things that the first lady of our nation needs to be associated with and for me this is not one of them.

Tonya Cook on

I still don’t understand why she was a part of the Oscars. The politics of Hollywood is sickening.

Kimi on

As always the First Lady of the United States of America looked stunning! So glad I stayed awake for that wonderful surprise!!

SamIAm on

Oh you Republican cry babies! get over it already!
She looked great as always :)

Sash on

Mrs. Obama looked lovely. Period.

Krcanaday on

The bangs really really need to go!

Virgo007 on

Yes, she looks nice but the bangs need a good trimming and yes she needs to fix her teeth.

Carol on

To all the negative folks, GET OVER IT! Haters gonna hate, all day, every day, that’s what they do best!

tig3431 on

this was such an awkward moment…jack nicholson seemed uncomfortable and she just didn’t fit. everyone at our party whether they voted for them or not thought this took away from the show. just really wierd, wierd, wierd. a good point about the reagans but even they didn’t shamelessly insert themselves right smack in the middle of the awards. anticlimactic and disturbing and yes those folks behind her were creepy.

Tammie on

AS USUAL Republican haters w/ heads up their *as. The most beloved Repub.President Regan was straight FROM HOLLYWOOD! Educate yourselves PLZ

Carolyn E. on

I smiled the whole way through..she spoke like someone who loves and appreciates the art of film making. Just wonderful and she looked Oscar night Gorgeous! Love her!

Summer on

Wow, people… We have some rude people around. Who cares if she should not have been there or not. I didn’t watch The Oscars but I think it’s cool she popped up. You all need to grow and get over yourselves.

Cathy on

Thumbs down….

Rhonda on

I believe the Obama’s would rather be in Hollywood than the Whitehouse.

Kristin on

Another waste of tax payers money!

Rhonda on

I believe that the Obamas would rather be in Hollywood than in DC

Lisa on

I agree that it seems the Obamas are more set on being “stars” than being the POTUS and FLOTUS. Yes, the Reagans were in show business but you never saw them inserting themselves into show business. Maybe they should stick more to politics and steer this country back in the right direction than trying to be seen with stars!

Braun on

It is shameful, that we are spending taxpayers money on a live remote from the White House on Oscar night. I am so glad that hard working Americans had the opportunity to see there money at work. So sad.

AL on

How about separation of Hollywood and state!

Col on

I really wish we could have enjoyed the night without politics and the Obama’s being thrown in our face. The dress was pretty but her bangs were too long and she either had very bad dry mouth or something was up with her lipstick because it looks like her teeth were getting in the way of her speaking!

Timbrelyn on

I ❤ our President and his 1st lady- it was wonderful to see her as always. I believe the ppl behind her are military band members. Disgusted at the amount of hate posts- why ya gotta be so mean?

booo on

Next!

Annie B. on

I dont know where you guys get the idea she’s so beautiful and elegant. And thanks Michele for spending how many thousands of taxpayer dollars so you could go pretend your a movie star a few hours. A person just cant get away from these two arrogant people. They can go everywhere on our taxdollar, but the business owner or millionaire who goes someplace with his own money is a dastardly rich person. Hmmm let me see what is worse? I’m so sick of these two I could puke. You cant even watch an award show without one of them showing up to grace us with their presence. The country is falling apart and these two are on a permanent vacation with the country’s trouble coming in second.

Lisa on

Aw come on all you libs…she’s a rich person! And you love her? Shouldnt she be giving the money she’s spending flying all over to some poor family??..Oh that’s right, she’s a Demorat so she’s exempt.

TO on

While I did vote for President Obama, I strongly believe that Mrs. Obama did not belong on the Oscars. It was an embarrassing moment that I could not bear to watch.

NKT NYC on

Fabulous. The FLOTUS was magnificent as always. Far more comfortable and ‘natural’ in front of the camera than 90% of the “professionals’ who had been presenting awards all night.

So proud of our First Lady’s poise and style and charm.

Emmaline on

How lovely that the FLOTUS, once again, ingratiated herself into a setting that was highly inappropriate for a woman of her stature. Some of the hard working, tax paying citizens of the USA, are too busy working to pay for our higher taxes, gasoline, food, and insurance, to be able to go on a family vacation. Meanwhile, this elitist administration utilizes our tax dollars for vacation and these propaganda appearances. We also paid for that gown! Quit campaigning and start working already!

Virginia on

I cannot believe all the hate here; just bigots running amok. Don’t tell me you are not racially biased because no other first lady has ever been so maligned or criticized. Mrs. Obama is intelligent, well educated, beautiful and stylish. She works hard for her causes, for which most of you criticize her. If she were white, there would be accolades, not complaints. Just how do you think she got on the show? They asked her! Fools! Then you blame her for participating. Bigotry is alive and well in the United States of America.

SMSJSN1 on

Apparently, it was arranged by Harvey Weinstein. WE DON’T NEED TO SEE HER AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS! EVEN LEFT-WING PEOPLE WERE SICKENED BY HER UNNECESSARY APPEARANCE. I WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM WHEN SHE CAME ON THINKING, HERE WE GO AGAIN.

Renee on

REALLY??? Here’s the FLOTUS sucking up to part of the 1%!!! The Obama administration is totally oblivious to what the common people are going through. This administration is more concerned with taking vacations and hobnobbing than anything concerned with the welfare of the USA. Hollywood is the only one watching the Oscars, so Mrs. Obama isn’t being a diplomat- she’s being a ritzy snob.

Lilly on

UMMMM to all you conservative haters, know what you’re talking about before posting. You HYPOCRITES will be shocked to know Laura Bush appeared at the Oscars in ’02. But that’s just fine, isn’t it (also, Reagan and FDR). Silly schmucks.

Susan on

She’s on the same level as a Kardashian. Desperate for attention. All of this is going to her head. She is desperate to be seen as some kind of Queen. Who were those people standing behind her? Her guards? The sequester is about to happen, and millions of people are about to lose their jobs.

She has no class at all, and it’s embarrassing for our country.

Colaine Reed on

The Frist Lady is best looking since Jackie Kennedy would u rather it be a WHITE LADY any body but someone Black but that is something u need JESUS for get over it the Obama r the best cause they lIved our life

Susan on

Re: : “I dont know where you guys get the idea she’s so beautiful and elegant.”

Ignorant people think that wearing the latest designer dress makes you beautiful and elegant. It doesn’t. Beauty is something you are born with. You either have it or you don’t. And elegance comes from how you carry yourself. None of that can be bought.

As for MO, she doesn’t understand how to conduct herself. In the past, Hollywood fawned all over the President and First Lady and wanted to be elevated to their level. Now we have the opposite, with the First Lady lowering the office down to Hollywood’s level. She wants to be one of them. (Look at that clownish Jimmy Fallon appearance.)

What a mess. I wish she would use her time more productively and stop degrading the position.

EyeAmAmused on

I can not believe that a First Lady would stoop to such cheap tactics! What happened to the good old days when we respected our Leaders and their wives? You would never had seen Jacki Kennedy stoop to that level – I am ashamed of this administration! Get a life and give a dang about the people – not getting your “bangs” another head shot!

Steffie on

It was a class act adding the First Lady to give out the award. In the past Laura Bush was a part of something with the Oscars and 2 previous presidents. This first lady is down to earth and can be with the everyday people and with kings & queens. Those negative people need to get over it or move out the U.S. if they have a problem with it.

mindcaviar on

To those of you screaming about political issues, please note: LAURA BUSH. GEORGE BUSH, and RONALD REAGAN ALL APPEARED either taped or live at The Academy Awards. No one is pushing anything down anyone’s throats. The President and First Lady represent our country and it is common for anyone holding that office or title to be included in NATIONAL EVENTS of IMPORTANCE such as awards or sporting events. Can your hatred be any more evident? I hated Bush & Reagan politically but I did not feel there was some sort of covert agenda about them appearing in public or commenting at national events. THEY WERE THE PRESIDENT AT THE TIME. DUH!!!!

patricia ducher on

Elanor Roosevelt or Mother Teresa she definately is NOT….she could, however, become a prominent SPOKES model for dental and orthodontic care to be a necessary part of any health care insurance plan…of course she and her husband actively represent the interests of a minority of the people in this country…so it obviously really doesnt matter what or if the rest of us think INDEPENDANTLY and have our basic constitutional rights protected friom the tyranny of a minority government..which apparently now is the subject of yet another Iranianarms coverup deal
