She was one of the few Oscars guests who didn’t sing a tune, dance a few steps or clutch a trophy, but Michelle Obama’s surprise appearance during Sunday night’s awards show was still one of the most talked-about moments of the broadcast.

The First Lady appeared via video to announce the Best Picture Oscar, looking like she belonged on the Oscars’ Best Dressed List in a glittering, custom smoke gray Naeem Khan gown and Sutra Silver at Fragments jewelry. She wore her bangs straight down but pulled the rest of her hair back into a low bun.

Though it would have made our night if she had gotten dressed to the nines just to present the award from the White House, Obama actually was taking a quick break from hosting the Governors Dinner — so no word on what she thought of the Les Misérables performance or Seth MacFarlane’s hosting job.

Tell us: Were you surprised to see Michelle Obama? What did you think of her outfit?

Susy Diamond,
I so agree. Do you think Susy that any other first lady would do this?, I don’t think so.
Obama’s, want to be rock stars…J Z and …

I was blown away I was soo excited. Who better than to seemingly downplay the exciting intruduction of the 1st lady than Mr Jack Nicholson I loved the entire show

I thought Obama’s appearance was tacky! She has NOTHING to do with the movies. Who were the creepy people behind her also? It should have been someone like Tom Hanks announcing the winner.

Julia Emry on

They could have done much better than that.

She is the most stylish First Lady! And no she doesn’t look good cuz of someone else’s money ( to the idiot who said that)! Get over it people the majority chose the Obama administration! Swallow it and keep on moving. I am sure you will get your old, grandma looking First Lady next term.

Doesn’t she have something more important to be doing? I don’t want to see the president or First Lady on talk shows or at the oscars, I want them to be working… they must have something better to do.

I think having the first lady annouce the winner was very nice. They are not in show business but as most of the movies were based on history i thought it was cool. She was dressed for the governors ball so all she had to do was step out for a few mins and she looked totally stunning.

She looked very lovely, and I thought she was terribly out of place. She didn’t belong awarding the best picture Oscar. I wish the Obamas would stop wedding themselves with Hollywood.

People seem to have forget that Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan were actors ….so politics and entertainment have always cross paths. Anyhow, I thought she looked beautiful.

hey people who are clutching their pearls over the utter disgrace of our First Lady announcing the big winner — did you not hear what she said when she began? She noted how important the performing arts are to children – which just happens to be her big thing, you know all the children of the US. The Obamas, as well as most democrats, and that is probably why they asked her to present. Would you rather have a republican when it’s the republicans who have been trying to take away all support for the arts like the way they slashed public broadcasting? geesh, figure it out people, everything is political in this country
