Tabatha's Takeover: Kerry Washington Is an Easter Parade Gone Wrong

We all know Tabatha Coffey, Bravo’s sharp-tongued Aussie style pro, from her stint on Shear Genius and her latest hit, Tabatha Takes Over. And now, she’s bringing her talents online, joining us at PEOPLE StyleWatch once weekly to dish on some of the best – and worst – celebrity looks of the week. Keep in mind the opinions below belong solely to the stylist … though she’s probably saying what lots of you are thinking, anyway!

Today, she takes on Kerry Washington, who wore a pink-and-green Oscar de la Renta gown to the NAACP Image Awards in L.A. this week:

I’m probably going to get a lot of negative comments for this one, but I absolutely can’t stand this Easter egg hunt of a dress on the lovely Kerry Washington. And honestly, I’m quite shocked this dress was even an option. It does nothing for her figure and it makes her look like she is 10 years old waiting for her grandma to pick her up for Easter brunch. Before I go any further, I’m going to need someone to burn those shoes.

If I had any say in the styling, I would put Kerry in something a bit more fitted and flattering. The color of the dress would hands-down be emerald green, not only because it is Pantone’s color of the year, but for the fact it would complement her complexion and hair color.

As far as hair and makeup go, I’m actually quite okay with what I’m seeing. A little lip color wouldn’t hurt, but I’m sure the makeup artist chose to stick with a nude palette to play it safe with this kind of dress.

While some fashion trends may look good on some it is not necessarily a good choice for all. In my opinion, regardless of the region, what you wear should look flattering. Before you leave your home you should look in the mirror and ask yourself if you feel good going anywhere that day looking that way. And if you perchance meet that special someone will you feel good about what you are wearing. If the answer is “yes” to those questions then go for it.

I agree with Tabitha. Quite frankly, I think Kerry is gorgeous! Stunning facial features and gorgeous skin but I don’t understand all the hype surrounding her so-called “super fantastic fashion sense.” I haven’t seen one look from hers I have gone “Wow!” over, and the look presented to us above is proof enough. I think people try so hard to be cutting edge that sometimes they forget that the real beauty in fashion is dressing according to what’s flattering and fitting to their figure while still being considered forward and sometimes a little risky.

I have to agree with tabatha. Being an african-american woman myself colors that flatter my skin tone are always a concern. She beautiful and this particular outfit was a total zero in my book

Tabitha rules. I love a famous person who is down to earth and calls em as she sees em! Refreshing!

Kerry Washington is a very attractive lady, but this dress makes her look like a cartoon Disyney princess.

I would be hard press to take any fashion advice from a woman who’s wardrobe only consit of black. Nope can’t do it!

I agree with Tabitha. I dont know what Kerry or her stylist was thinking. This looks like something you would have worn to your prom or sweet sixteen party in the probably the 50’s or 60’s. It is certainly not sophisticated enough for a 30/40 something year old to wear to a red carpet affair in 2013.
