Blizzard Keeps Katie Holmes from Fashion Presentation

Katie Holmes spent yesterday kicking off her heels with fashion editors in a New York City hotel suite to present the latest elegant collection for her Holmes & Yang fashion line. But today, the blizzard that’s battering the East Coast caused Holmes to reprioritize. Her daughter Suri‘s school was closing early, it was explained, and she had to go pick her up.

That practical part of her life — and that of her design partner and stylist Jeanne Yang, herself a mother to twin girls — is an ever-present influence on their fashion philosophy. “Our customer is somebody who wants to be comfortable” says Yang, who walked PEOPLE through an intimate one-on-one presentation of the line. “You want to look good, but Katie and I always talk about this, it should never come at the cost of comfort.”

As Holmes herself told The New York Times, their goal is “to make high-quality pieces that are simple enough, you can wear over and over again.”

With luxe fabrics and silhouettes that show subtle peeks of skin, Holmes & Yang, produced entirely in America, was inspired this season “by the 40s by way of the 70s, Katherine Hepburn, and menswear with little touches of femininity,” says Yang.

One of Holmes’s favorite looks is a figure-flattering, shoulder exposing peplum power suit because, “Katie and I always talk about our shoulders,” says Yang. “The fact is that shoulders are always sexy, and you never lose your shoulders.”

The designers took an equally beauty-conscious yet practical approach to the Bobbi Brown makeup their models wore (Holmes is the face of the line). Get all the details on what Brown called the “dewy faces and feminine raspberry stained lips” of the makeup looks, including which products were used, in an exclusive first peek at the below sketch.

Umm its been snowing in mass since before 8am and at 1 when I was driving home, 3 cars spun out in the 7 miles I drive to work so I dunno what part.of NY ur in, but clearly different areas are getting hit at different rates. My whole state cancelled schools yesterday.

the blizzard didn’t stop her publicist from letting people know all about this big news!

Wow that would suck specially because it’s her own and she is missing it. I wonder If it will now be postponed because someone can’t make it. Hopefully she can at least watch it on the T.V. if it’s on there. Even she could watch it on television if it’s on television anyway.

Who cares – wouldn’t buy her stuff anyway?

LMAO! Come on people. I know there’s no truth in journalism anymore but at least make an effort to lie better or FRABRICATE better. This is such a BS article I don’t even know which lie to tackle. BUT AT LEAST THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME LAUGHS SO HARD!

Give me a break!! The collection in the Fall was just passable at best and it’s just 9:34 pm in NYC and the snow is still doable. Let’s keep it real. Her team only invited editors that are #teamKatie – and hey, I don’t blame her. As for her fashions…I don’t know who can afford her clothing and ther’s nothing that is so amazing that I’d be clamoring to buy it.. Her price point is WAY over priced for what it is. She’s just banking on her name…I’m not mad at that, but provide quality please.

Seems to me, with all the weather issues, the dangers, the need to get emergency vehicles through the snow, all of the shows should have been cancelled. The kind of weather in the NE is experiencing is a nightmare for police, firefighters and street clearing, Governors are telling people to stay off the roads.

I had a chance to see Katie’s dresses on another site and they were terrific! Very classic! Long or short, I liked them very much! :~ )

Uh, the so-called blizzard did not keep her from it! I live in Manhattan right near Central Park, I was outside from 4pm till 11pm last night and the snow was not bad at all, the ground wasn’t even covered! The wind was bad and blowing snow around, but the sidewalks were all just mush, they weren’t even ice or frozen. The news media exagerates everything. Manhattan hardly got hit. Now the outer boroughs, Queens, Brooklyn, esp. out on Long island maybe they did, but school here did not need closed, the streets were clear, everything was opened all the groceries and stores were opened, the movie theaters all restaurants were opened and busy, nothing was closed here, traffic was fine and not backed up buses and subways were running as usual as I took them. Ridiculous how the media fabricates eveything, I bet they even use past years photos of snow to fake today! Maybe others places got hit bad, but Manhattan did NOT.
