Anne Hathaway's 'Les Mis' Premiere Look: Love It or Leave It?

Confession: We’ve spent all morning talking about the dress Anne Hathaway selected for the Les Misérables world premiere in London on Wednesday.

The star chose a very busy pearl-beaded white Givenchy number with some serious sleeves for her big night that has just left all of us wondering, “What is going on here?”

Granted, there are a few things that we love about her look: The color is gorgeous and the open back is romantic.

Though with the good comes the bad: The all-over pearl beading is just overwhelming, the sleeves remind us of bat wings (maybe she was paying homage to her Dark Knight role?) and the open-shoulder halter neckline just does not work with everything else going on.

We do have to give Hathaway props for wearing something risky and unexpected (we certainly don’t think we’ll see this in a Fashion Faceoff anytime soon), but we wish she had chosen something a bit less over-the-top. Tell us: Do you like Hathaway’s dress? Vote below?

She can wear what she pleases. Same goes for everyone!

DaisyMoon on

Except for the sleeves, it’s gorgeous!

Sophie on

I think it would have been lovely if she got rid of the sleeves and maybe took an inch or so off the skirt.

krtmom on

I think she looks amazing! Short hair suits her. I think that dress is gorgeous!

Joules on

It’s quirky, so is she, it suits her nicely.

They can’t all be winners!

susan on

Beautiful just like her! Les Miz needs an oppulent, over-the-top gown.

Stacey on

Are you kidding me? She looks gorgeous:)

lilah on

Good for Anne! She is young, vibrant and stylish!

monica on

love the dress, except for the batwings– which make it look like the dress is weighted down. color is perfect for her,

samijo1972 on

I think she looks stunning…

Emily on

Not everyone could pull it off, but she looks good.

Karolina on

I think it is a beautiful dress and she looks equally beautiful in it.

Allie on

Don’t get me wrong – she’s gorgeous – but it does kind of look like a sloppy yet chic Snuggie.

Emily on

Anne needs to put on some weight

Lori on

With her shape and hairstyle this dress is very flattering on her.

Jen on

It’s unique and I like it and here comes the big but…how uncomforable to sit in that with all the beads. Ouch!

kim on

love it. sexy and classy

Morgan on

I like it from the front.

Shannon on

Anne must have fired Rachel Zoe as her stylist, because she has never looked this bad! Way too busy for her- Anne is a stunning by herself- this dress is wearing her, not the other way around. The back is pretty, but the front is just a mess! Can’t wait to see what Joan thinks of this on Fashion Police.

guest on

It’s not a standard, cookie-cutter dress. Good for her for having the self-confidence to try something unique and not settle for something safe and bland. I think she looks beautiful.

kristy on

She needs to grow that hair looooooooooooong. She’s still Beautiful. <3

librababe on

I like it! It’s different for her but I like it with the hair…she took a chance….and it looks fierce!

Anna on

I love it!!! Two words: haute couture.

Merlin on

She has the figure, why not? Let her enjoy the limelight

Eon smith on

I like her and the dress but not really fascinated…she should ditch the pearls, they were too much. The sleeves need to go and the neck should be more like a long neck. Other than that she looks good!

Heather on

If I had her bod I’d even rock a paper bag dress. The draping leaves nothing to the imagination yet conceals almost everything. Clever.

Bridgett on

If that gown’s back is “semi-open,” I can’t imagine what “fully open” would look like.

manomer on

It isn’t a dress I would pick for me….b/c it doesn’t suit me…but it is perfect for her. I have never seen her look bad.

Mary on

Really, an article about a dress? I’ve seen much worse and it’s looks great on her. Much ado about nothing.

seatown on

She is a gorgeous girl, but that dress looks like an old table cloth or curtains from my grandma’s house. Horrible.

jennifer on

I really like this dress on her. She looks great!

robby on

she is not appealing

cBlack on

Not the sleeves… The dress over all is Beautiful.

Sara on

She’s a beautiful girl, she could wear a paper bag and make it look good!

maggie on

Back is lovely the sleeves..ugh..

Lynn C on

I love it and she looks totally gorgeous.

madalyn on

She is gorgeous in white and that cut! Beautiful!

westwingpotus on

The front is spectacular and she looks amazing, but unfortunately, when she turns around it looks like the back to a completely different dess and the sleeves look really silly. So it’s half of a great dress.

Kathy on

Minus the sleeves the dress itself is pretty!

Emily on

I think she could lace up the back more. With the skirt a little flowy, the sleeves shouldn’t be so flowy too!!!! TO MUCH FLOWY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amy E on

I love it, especially the pearl beading and style

Amy on

Good for her for being risky…she has a rockin’ bod and it shows in this get up. I wouldn’t wear it (even if I had her figure) but I’m not her and she’s not me, to each their own!

Jane on

She’s not attractive enough to carry off a dress like that, and realize her hair was cut off for the film, but wow does long hair make a difference oh her! I never realized how unattractive she was until her head was shaved, hope she has the sense to grow it back long, she needs help!

LolaP on

I like the front, but the back is a bit of a disaster. It looks like someone ripped her sleeves off the halter straps. I think it would look better in the back if the sleeves attached to the straps and draped, like the front.

Denise on

let’s see you look that good in it

Karin on

Love the back, meh to the front.

Elsa Caceres on

after getting used to her being with short hair
it suits her
and the dress looks nice on her

Sophie on

how about burn it?;p

Adele on

I actually love the dress–did from the moment I saw it. Love the halter top, flowing sleeves and the beading. She looks gorgeous. I only have one question. Did she have to hold her arms like that all night?

cirquedelatelier on

Ah-Maze-Ing! Love the look, she is a true fashion risk taker, love it.

Sara on

She should stick with Valentino.

Autumn on

I love her acting, but why does she insist on wearing white? It does nothing for her coloring!

Renee on

Usually I love what she wears but not crazy about the style or the color on her. Really washes her out….to fair for that color!

BC on

I applaud her choosing a dress that covers her, yet still looks feminine. While it is not my taste, is it is classy nonetheless.

John F. C. Taylor on

Don’t like the separated sleeves. Otherwise, it looks okay.

Connie on

How can a monochrome gown, no flounces, just dropped sleeves be called “busy?” The back is a bit different, but it is not “busy” either. About the only bad thing I have to say about it is that it must be very uncomfortable to sit down.

maya on

Not a fan. It might have worked if it was colorful, but that stark white on her alabaster skin just washes her out. Meh…

SteveRR on

The only people loving her short hair are the femmes in the crowd.

Irma on

She is stunning! People are jealous!!!

vinny b on

She’s got some of the most spectacular breasts I’ve ever seen on ANY woman in hollywood. She should wear something that faetures them

beebee on

who cares. she looks happy

leona on

the sleeves have to go, then it would be great!

Amy on

It’s not the prettiest I have seen but there have been WAY worse.

mallory on

her premiere, her dress! she can wear whatever she wants

j dedonato on

Debateable?! Glasses for everyone!!!

Maren on

Love it from the back. Don’t like it from the front.

Lia on

Love the dress, hate the back of her hair.

Merry Christmas on

If there is ONE gift you can give yourselves this year, its the gift of Salvation!

Say this prayer out loud for you have nothing to lose but everything to gain..

Dear Lord,

I admit that i am a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I repent. I ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what i could not do for myself. I come to you now and ask you to come into my heart, and to take control of my life, i give it to you. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases you. I love you, Lord, and I thank you that i will spend all eternity with you.

lola on

the length is inexcusable! Who’s the stylist?!

Lee Anne on

This reminds me of opulant , over-the-top ’50’s glamour and I love it! She looks like a classic, classy star.

lesia on

with all that money, that’s the best dress she could get???? but as long as she likes it , that’s what counts
