Justin Bieber Takes Reporter to Task Over Overalls Commotion

After the drop-crotch pants controversy of 2012, we were hoping Justin Bieber would listen to our advice and invest in some sexy slim-cut jeans or a nice pair of trousers.

But wow, we were wrong.

This past weekend, the pop star received a Diamond Jubilee Medal from Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and wore half-buckled overalls for the occasion. But after being raked over the coals by the Daily Mail (“Would a suit hurt, Justin?” they wrote) and Gawker — which called him a “white trash prince” — the Biebs fought back:

“The pic of me and the Prime Minister was taken in a room in the arena where I was performing that day,” he wrote on Instagram on Sunday, specifically targeting Daily Mail writer Hayley Peterson. “I walked straight from my meet and greet to him, if you “Hayley” expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan [sic] a suit at that specific time that’s crazy, It wasn’t like it was like I was going into his environment we were at a hockey arena. Wow am I ever white trash hayley peterson lol.”

We understand Bieber’s point — it’s not like he was at the Prime Minister’s residence, and the boy is crazy busy — but on the other hand … overalls. Really Justin? Tell us: Do you think Bieber’s overalls were trendy or tacky? Vote in our poll below!

i think he reaches his target audience—he has a stylist and pr person and if they didn’t advise him different and since we don’t know the facts behind the get up..why beat the kid up. And who knows—maybe the prime minister told him to come casual

I love that his fans think it’s about being a “hater”. I personally don’t hate the kid. I don’t think he is particularly talented but that’s something different all together. The question is was it tacky to wear the overalls to meet the PM while receiving a very prestigious award…and the answer is yes! He’s basically saying the honor wasn’t important enough for him to change. You are receiving one of your countries top honors and you couldn’t take 5 minutes to change?! Bull!! It makes him seem like an inconsiderate jerk who’s parents didn’t teach him any manners.

Wow people love to hate on people doing good. I’m sorry but I’ve seen other stars greet the prim minister in more shoddy clothes. His clothes remind me of the farmers that are so forgotten in our country also. This pm is our worst!!!!!!!!

Completely CLASSLESS!!! This is a huge problem with young people today, they don’t know how to show respect. I went with my son to traffic court a few years ago and the baliff explained that the judge did not allow jeans, t-shirts, sneakers or hats in his courtroom and that if you were not dressed appropriately that you needed to reschedule your court date and return wearing the proper pants, shoes and a collared shirt. 3/4 of the room left!! My son looked at me and laughed saying that he was happy that he dressed appropriately. Court took us 30 minutes and the judge thanked my son for showing respect to his authority by dressing in a suit. His case was dismissed :)

He is meeting Stephen Harper so it doesn’t matter either way.

I think it’s hilarious that he was booed at the Grey Cup in TO. They should have had a classic performer like Colin James or Great Big Sea

It’s not the Dalai Lama sillies, it’s only Stephen Harper. Who cares if he wore a clown suit to meet him?
