Justin Bieber Takes Reporter to Task Over Overalls Commotion

After the drop-crotch pants controversy of 2012, we were hoping Justin Bieber would listen to our advice and invest in some sexy slim-cut jeans or a nice pair of trousers.

But wow, we were wrong.

This past weekend, the pop star received a Diamond Jubilee Medal from Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and wore half-buckled overalls for the occasion. But after being raked over the coals by the Daily Mail (“Would a suit hurt, Justin?” they wrote) and Gawker — which called him a “white trash prince” — the Biebs fought back:

“The pic of me and the Prime Minister was taken in a room in the arena where I was performing that day,” he wrote on Instagram on Sunday, specifically targeting Daily Mail writer Hayley Peterson. “I walked straight from my meet and greet to him, if you “Hayley” expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan [sic] a suit at that specific time that’s crazy, It wasn’t like it was like I was going into his environment we were at a hockey arena. Wow am I ever white trash hayley peterson lol.”

We understand Bieber’s point — it’s not like he was at the Prime Minister’s residence, and the boy is crazy busy — but on the other hand … overalls. Really Justin? Tell us: Do you think Bieber’s overalls were trendy or tacky? Vote in our poll below!

This is why, at 6 and 4 years old, I am already teaching my kids to dress appropriately. SMH

He is a hard-working and talented kid and really needs to be left the f**k alone, I wanna see all you little haters achieve that kinda success and then talk. Just because he’s only 18 does not mean he should be subject to this kind of nonsensical and ignorant judgement. And to top it off, he’s way more talented than half the the so-called “pop-stars” out there. his numbers speak for themselves?? So really just get a life!!

aren’t your parents supposed to help impart a sense of decency, respect, propriety.. ? guess not. hope his teen mom’s book isn’t about how to raise a child :-P

Well, as a Canadian citizen, I’m sort of conflicted. On the one hand, incredibly tacky that he would meet the PM looking like that. On the other hand, it is Stephen Harper….one of the most hated PM’s we’ve ever had, so….yeah….I’m inclined to want to give him a high five….#completelytorn

Hasn’t anyone figured out that he is dressed like this because he is getting ready to paint the PM’s house ?

As a fellow Canadian, the first thing I noticed was his outfit when I saw the photos and my thoughts were exactly the same. I understand he was meeting fans and performing, but I’m guessing the prime minister didn’t show up unexpectedly. Maybe a suit would have been a bit much, but like you said, couldn’t he have classed it up a bit with a nice dark wash jean and a nice shirt? I realize he’s young, it’s not his typical style, etc, but something this sloppy when you know you have an important meeting is just plain unprofessional no matter what industry you’re in.

He was at a football game, who’s going to wear a suit to that? Get over it people! He should be commended for performing a concert for Canada when he’s the biggest teen star in the world, he certainly didn’t have to. The kid is patriotic and having the ‘privilege’ of meeting Stephen Harper is also a matter of opinion.

Immature and classless.

This kid is so disrespectful he needs to learn some manners
