All About Michelle Obama’s Election Night Dress

Four more years with President Barack Obama in the White House means … four more years of amazing fashions from Michelle.

The First Lady exercised her right to look stylish after the polls closed Tuesday night, wearing a pintucked magenta silk chine Michael Kors dress (she’s a fan of the designer), House of Lavande Vintage brooch and black shrug for her husband’s acceptance speech in Chicago. And in true Michelle fashion, she chose a dress she’d worn — twice — before.

“She said that she was so busy with the campaign and their kids that she had no time to think about an outfit and decided at the last minute,” an Obama source tells PEOPLE.

Michelle first wore the dress to a White House holiday part in 2009, wearing it again for a military event in November of 2010, according to the Huffington Post.

“Mrs. Obama looked chic and elegant as always on election night,” Kors says in a statement. “My dress, with its strong color, clean lines and feminine silhouette, has all the elements that have become a part of the trademark style of our First Lady.”

Four years ago, the then-new FLOTUS made her first major style statement in a black-and-red Narciso Rodriguez sheath (daughters Sasha and Malia were color-coordinated with mom). It’s been fun to follow her fashions since then — everything from H&M frocks and Tracy Reese stunners to Naeem Khan gowns and Isaac Mizrahi creations. And we especially can’t wait to see what she wears to the inaugural ball in January — it’ll take a lot to top that Jason Wu dress. Tell us: What did you think of Michelle’s election day dress?

OMG…In reply to Guest. How many times must it be said that these were established PROFESSIONALS who had money BEFORE they became the President and First Lady. It’s people like you who made thousands turn out yesterday to re-elect this wonderful couple. It’s YOU god needs to bless!!

Guest…you sound like a sore loser to me. How much did Ann Romney’s dress cost last night? I am sure her clothes budget is much more expensive than the First Lady’s. Your party’s negativity is one…just one of the many reasons you lost last night.

I love this dress, as I do most of her dresses. To those complaining about ‘who paid for this dress”..for God’s sake get real. Who do you think paid for Jackie Kennedy’s clothes? Nancy Regan’s? ANY OTHER FIRST LADY? Many of these clothes are probably given as gifts, many are paid for by the family themselves. If you’re so worried about who pays for the first families clothing, you’ve obviously got WAY more problems than they do…….

Am I the only one who hated her Jason Wu dress she wore to the inaugural ball? She normally looks so lovely, but that dress was so unflattering on her tall, statuesque frame and I didn’t like the material or anything else about it. A total flub from my perspective.

I like the dress better than the black and red dress she wore 4 years ago

tired of hearing how she helps military families and children….when her husband is the first president in years to cut our pay……they could care less about the military.

She actually looked very nice. (I looked at the pic, didn’t see the acceptance speech) At least this time she didn’t look like a black widow spider. ha
