Fashion Faceoff: Elizabeth Hurley vs. Lady Gaga in Versace's 'Safety Pin' Dress

It takes a bold woman to pull off a dress as daring as Versace’s infamous ‘safety pin’ gown, but if anyone was going to try, of course it would be Lady Gaga.

The singer donned the barely there creation in Milan on Tuesday, 18 years after Elizabeth Hurley first made jaws drop while wearing the dress to the London premiere of Hugh Grant’s Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The black silk and lycra creation plunges at the neckline and has a super-revealing slit, held together at the upper thigh and along the sides with a few golden safety pins. Gaga accessorized the gown with dangling gold earrings and major platform boots, while Hurley went a simpler route, adding hoops, a clutch and basic black heels.

‘That Dress’ (yes, it even has its own Wikipedia page) made Hurley a star — and probably made then-beau Grant very happy. But what will it do for Gaga, aside from drawing comparisons to Hurley? That remains to be seen. Tell us: Who wears the dress best? Vote in our poll below!

I like it on Elizabeth Hurley the best.

I agree whomever said this is the most normal she’s looked ever. I like it when she dresses “down” (i.e. without the costumes). She’s very attractive when she’s just her normal self. I think they equally look good, although the platform boots look bad.

Maybe she can wear JLo’s infamous green dress next? Or how about MC ‘Hammer’ pants with a top made of nails and screws?

P.S. I can’t believe this dress was every controversial. What a long way we’ve come (for better or worse).

Liz wins, but it’s nice to see Gaga looking like a woman rather than a cartoon character!

They both look great; but give props to Elizabeth Hurley rockin’ it in her 40s

They both look like cheap tramps.

Hurley didn’t rock it in her 40s, she was only 29 when she wore it. Although I wouldn’t doubt that she could still wear it.

what happened to her being fat these days?? she looks amazing!

Lady Gaga’s schtick is getting old. I agree with the posters here and she doesn’t have an original idea. And I looked at the picture and thought “where’s Gaga?”. She was actually dressed normal for a change.
