Why Olivia Munn Doesn't Have a Stylist

You would think that a celebrity who openly admits she doesn’t have stellar sartorial skills and is regularly on the red carpet would hire a stylist, but not Olivia Munn. And she has a surprising reason for turning down wardrobe help from a pro.

“I can’t even dress myself,” Munn told to PEOPLE at the Entertainment Weekly pre-Emmy party in Los Angeles on Friday. “But the only reason I don’t use a stylist is because I feel like if I’m going to fall, I’d rather it be on me.” And though she didn’t say it, the flip side is that Munn gets to take all the credit when she selects a killer outfit.

Well, almost all the credit. The Newsroom actress added that she sometimes turns to her secret style weapon for advice. “One of my best girlfriends works at Vogue, so I send her pictures of things that I like and say to her, ‘How do I put this outfit together?’”

Practice seems to be making perfect for Munn, whose style has been evolving and improving as her red carpet appearances become more frequent. She’s also getting bolder with her fashion choices. “I used to wear my hair and makeup the exact same way all of the time — and now I try new things,” Munn explained. “I used to wear blacks and white to keep things neutral and safe, but now I feel like if I find [pieces] that are still classic shapes that fit my body, then I’m okay with trying them in new colors.” Tell us: Are you surprised that a red carpet regular wouldn’t use a stylist? What do you think of Munn’s style?
