Lady Gaga Reveals Lifelong Struggle with Eating Disorder

After receiving quite a bit of negative attention for her recent weight gain (she put on 25 pounds), Lady Gaga took to her social media website, LittleMonsters.com, to respond — and to reveal a painful secret.

On Tuesday, Gaga posted a photo (left) of herself wearing nothing but a yellow bra and underwear, along with this caption: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.” With the picture, she announced the launch of a new movement, “A Body Revolution 2013,” meant to encourage body acceptance.

The singer added a second shot with her arms stretched in the air saying, “But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION.” Two more photos, in which Gaga shows off her backside, are also included in the post with the captions, “To inspire bravery” and “BREED some m$therf*cking COMPASSION.”

On her site, Gaga explains that the inspiration behind the movement stemmed from the Born This Way Foundation, an organization she started with her mother to stop bullying and embrace individuality. “This profile is an extension of that dream,” she wrote. “Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

Unsurprisingly, the Mother Monster’s positive message resonated with her Little Monsters. Soon after the post went up, fans began flooding the website with photos of themselves in their underwear and sharing their own personal struggles with body image issues.

“I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly,” Gaga wrote in a letter to her fans, thanking them for their outpouring of support for her cause. “You are proud to be born this way, and brave in your vulnerability with this community. Watching you all create a safe space online for people to be compassionate is the greatest gift you could ever give me.” Tell us: What do you think of Gaga’s Body Revolution? obviously she looks fine. i sincerely doubt she gained 25lbs. though. is it not obvious to everyone that this is just a ploy for more attention?

I have no problem with her and like her music but this was for publicity and to get started on her next endeavor. She was never fat unlike half of america so you fat chicks praising her and still praising a thin girl. she actually get off her butt and does stuff like dance and perform while most fat americans sit and watch tv. so praise her for not being lazy but this was done for publicity. shes a smart girl, or her agent or whoever advised her to do this to get attention

She is beautiful…what is the big deal? I would give anything for her ‘fat’ figure….you can see her bones, her tummy is flat..why do people want to find fault.? and even if she was at 200 lbs or more…her talent is still there…what is wrong with people?

I think you are finally realizing you are a beautiful person on the inside & out! I’ll be brave with you. Life is NOT about how you are perceived in a tabloid picture or seen through a camera lense…it’s about living each & everyday…trying to be the best person you can be, giving a smile when someone you don’t even know needs one, taking in the sunshine on your face & feeling a simple breeze. It’s the simple things that matter most. Loving family, friends & a support system are just an added bonus! KUDO’s to you!!! Curves are WAAAY more beautiful than skin & bones sticking out!

that has GOT to be an old pic of her, cuz in more recent pics shes VERY chunky and has a very obvious and huge double chin. shes not being honest.

I think she looks great! She looks a heck of a lot better then most of the celebrities out there. Most of them look like bean poles. She has curves and is making it know that “it’s ok” to have them. No this is NOT porn. She not doing anything like that in the pic. Seriously grow up. Lady Gaga is a great role model. Even for adults, not just teens. She is telling everyone that your “flaws” are what make you “you” and beautiful and not to be ashamed of it!
