After receiving quite a bit of negative attention for her recent weight gain (she put on 25 pounds), Lady Gaga took to her social media website, LittleMonsters.com, to respond — and to reveal a painful secret.

On Tuesday, Gaga posted a photo (left) of herself wearing nothing but a yellow bra and underwear, along with this caption: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.” With the picture, she announced the launch of a new movement, “A Body Revolution 2013,” meant to encourage body acceptance.

The singer added a second shot with her arms stretched in the air saying, “But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION.” Two more photos, in which Gaga shows off her backside, are also included in the post with the captions, “To inspire bravery” and “BREED some m$therf*cking COMPASSION.”

On her site, Gaga explains that the inspiration behind the movement stemmed from the Born This Way Foundation, an organization she started with her mother to stop bullying and embrace individuality. “This profile is an extension of that dream,” she wrote. “Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

Unsurprisingly, the Mother Monster’s positive message resonated with her Little Monsters. Soon after the post went up, fans began flooding the website with photos of themselves in their underwear and sharing their own personal struggles with body image issues.

“I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly,” Gaga wrote in a letter to her fans, thanking them for their outpouring of support for her cause. “You are proud to be born this way, and brave in your vulnerability with this community. Watching you all create a safe space online for people to be compassionate is the greatest gift you could ever give me.” Tell us: What do you think of Gaga’s Body Revolution? Do you think that this was the right way to respond to the haters?

It’s great to see her normal, not trying to be as weird as possible. She is a talented woman with an ability to inspire positivity. I was actually getting quite sick of her over the top looks. The meat dress really left me with a bad taste, but I appreciate her message. At times she may be very inappropriate for younger girls, but this time she really shines in my eyes.

Even misguided people can do good things. I respect her for doing something positive, even though I don’t agree with everything she stands for. She’s standing up for something good here, so i’m not gonna bash her for it. I hope many people see that you don’t have to be rail skinny and starve yourself to be beautiful.

She is not fat. I hate it when these skinny a$$ famous people call themselves FAT! I can show you FAT Sweetheart! LOL!

She looks wonderful and HEALTHY!! If she was 25 pounds less, she was definitely underweight before. Kudos to her to disavowing the myth that you have to be model-thin (ie. starving) to be accepted as beautiful.

Wow, what a great role model.

That’s about the lowest someone has stooped for publicity.

REGARDLESS of whether she has personal gain from this or not, the fact remains – she is encouraging people to be accepting of themselves. You cannot condemn someone for being compassionate.

What’s humorous to me is that she can say harsh things about bigger sized people yet is suffering with her own self image. I think its great that she is working hard but you shouldn’t put others down when its such a fragile issue.

This is way better than her pop stars don’t eat speel she was giving before, but, I am tired of seeing her almost naked.

She has a great body in this pic! She doesn’t look like she needs to loose any weight!
