After receiving quite a bit of negative attention for her recent weight gain (she put on 25 pounds), Lady Gaga took to her social media website,, to respond — and to reveal a painful secret.

On Tuesday, Gaga posted a photo (left) of herself wearing nothing but a yellow bra and underwear, along with this caption: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.” With the picture, she announced the launch of a new movement, “A Body Revolution 2013,” meant to encourage body acceptance.

The singer added a second shot with her arms stretched in the air saying, “But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION.” Two more photos, in which Gaga shows off her backside, are also included in the post with the captions, “To inspire bravery” and “BREED some m$therf*cking COMPASSION.”

On her site, Gaga explains that the inspiration behind the movement stemmed from the Born This Way Foundation, an organization she started with her mother to stop bullying and embrace individuality. “This profile is an extension of that dream,” she wrote. “Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

Unsurprisingly, the Mother Monster’s positive message resonated with her Little Monsters. Soon after the post went up, fans began flooding the website with photos of themselves in their underwear and sharing their own personal struggles with body image issues.

“I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly,” Gaga wrote in a letter to her fans, thanking them for their outpouring of support for her cause. “You are proud to be born this way, and brave in your vulnerability with this community. Watching you all create a safe space online for people to be compassionate is the greatest gift you could ever give me.” Tell us: What do you think of Gaga’s Body Revolution? Do you think that this was the right way to respond to the haters?

Lady Gaga suffered with a debilitating disorder, and I commend her for speaking out about an often ‘silent’ disease. Bulimia and anorexia affects many people of both sexes. Someone very, very close to me died as a result of bulimia and anorexia. If drawing attention to her cause makes someone think twice, then I say go for it Lady Gaga!

All of you are missing the point. It’s not about what she looks like. It’s not about if you think she looks fat or thin in this picture, if you think she needed to gain the weight or faked the pic and is really heavier than it appears. The point is WHO CARES!!! Why does the media have the right to tear someone apart because they gain weight?!? Why are we so hung up on weight that we create a society where our mothers/daughters/sisters/aunts kills themselves to attain a beauty they don’t need when the are already beautiful? Gag is beautiful in this picture and every picture; at this weight and every weight because she is a beautiful person and that is the message we should be teaching our children.

The photo makes her look like she has a huge head and very tiny feet

I just joined her site so I could check out her Body Revolution. Those of you who think she’s only doing it for publicity, need to go look. I’m in tears right now. So many young people have posted, all of them beautiful in some way. If she helps these kids to be stronger and to feel better about themselves, then she can have the publicity she wants because she really is making a difference.

Recent weight gain?!! What….is she up to SKINNY now? How is she getting negative press?? I see nothing wrong with this woman’s body and if this is what she looks like after gaining 25 pounds, I would be worried about her previous weight! I hope she’ll continue to stand up for herself and for every one else who struggles with weight and their self image! Go GaGa!! :)

An extra 25 pounds definitely don’t look that gorgeous on me!

Lady Gaga is a beautiful queen of a woman and an artist.

I applaud her. There are too many skinny young girls out there starving themselves each day to look like their favorite stars. That is not natural! I am sickened by the industries that hire these thin women to promote their products.
