After receiving quite a bit of negative attention for her recent weight gain (she put on 25 pounds), Lady Gaga took to her social media website,, to respond — and to reveal a painful secret.

On Tuesday, Gaga posted a photo (left) of herself wearing nothing but a yellow bra and underwear, along with this caption: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.” With the picture, she announced the launch of a new movement, “A Body Revolution 2013,” meant to encourage body acceptance.

The singer added a second shot with her arms stretched in the air saying, “But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION.” Two more photos, in which Gaga shows off her backside, are also included in the post with the captions, “To inspire bravery” and “BREED some m$therf*cking COMPASSION.”

On her site, Gaga explains that the inspiration behind the movement stemmed from the Born This Way Foundation, an organization she started with her mother to stop bullying and embrace individuality. “This profile is an extension of that dream,” she wrote. “Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

Unsurprisingly, the Mother Monster’s positive message resonated with her Little Monsters. Soon after the post went up, fans began flooding the website with photos of themselves in their underwear and sharing their own personal struggles with body image issues.

“I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly,” Gaga wrote in a letter to her fans, thanking them for their outpouring of support for her cause. “You are proud to be born this way, and brave in your vulnerability with this community. Watching you all create a safe space online for people to be compassionate is the greatest gift you could ever give me.” Tell us: What do you think of Gaga’s Body Revolution? Do you think that this was the right way to respond to the haters?

I’m conflicted about this. I absolutely do not want to make light of eating disorders and the struggles they bring, but I cannot help but feel like she’s just saying this for attention. Gaga is the epitome of the boy who cried wolf: she does such crazy and outrageous things for publicity all the time, so when she’s actually being sincere about something we just shake our heads and say, “Oh, you!” I don’t know what’s worse: wishing she actually had an eating disorder and was trying to help others, or the possibilty that she’s lying for attention and publicity.

whatever on

if that’s “fat”, 3/4′s of this country are morbidly obese, KK and her sisters included

An article on another site said these pictures were old, not current. She looked heavier than this in the “muffin top” pictures that just made the rounds.

Dear Gaga,
Nobody is criticizing your weight…just how you dress. Please, stop wearing underwear that is too small on stage and cover up for crying out loud…!!!

She looks great!!!

I think it was absolutely a brilliant, brave, inspired move. As a therapist, self acceptance is the issue that just about everyone struggles with at some point in their life. I admire her efforts to supply young people with a positive message about celebrating their individuality. Thanks Lady Gaga!!

She looks great in this picture. Any smaller, and she’d be too thin.

just another lame attempt at bringing ridiculous attention to herself. others have been there ,done that. and have garnered the same attention before. you’re not unique. get over yourself. i cannot stand her! and she barely even looks like she gained weight! she is the one creating all of the publicity. over it.
