How the Ladies of ‘Glee’ Are Updating Their Looks for Season 4

Lea Michele‘s Glee character, Rachel Berry, has not only graduated on to college, but it sounds like her style has grown up as well.

“There may or may not be a little makeover happening,” Michele, whose Rachel is off to the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts, hinted to PEOPLE on Wednesday at the FOX show’s season 4 premiere in L.A. “We do have Sarah Jessica Parker on our show this season, so it would only be right.”

It’s an exciting upgrade for the star, who seemingly didn’t relate to Rachel’s high school style.

“I’m very happy,” she said. “Now I can leave work and keep my hair and makeup and actually want to wear my clothes out to dinner and stuff like that.”

A similar change is happening for Jenna Ushkowitz’s Tina Cohen-Chang, who’s staying behind in Ohio for her senior year of high school.

“She gets to wear bangs this year, and she … matures,” the actress shared. “We finessed her. She went from the goth and all the layers and corsets to black dresses, and then we went into color.”

Now, “Tina is definitely [into] color, short, retro dresses. Definitely more flats … and no more knee socks,” Ushkowitz said. Designer labels, too. “She used to wear a lot of vintage things, and I love that [the costume designers] have started to incorporate Marc Jacobs and more fashion-forward things [into her wardrobe].” Tell us: Did you watch the Glee premiere last night? Did you notice a change in the characters’ styles?

Oh, yeah, Jenna, high school seniors in Lima, Ohio regularly wear Marc Jacobs. And where have YOU been these last few years???

In my opinion, this show lost its charm.

Aly on

In my opinion, this show never had charm.

I still watch, but nothing beats the first season. I miss the Terri, Will, Emma triangle, now the side stories are just lame. Still like the musical numbers though…

In my opinion, Sons of Anarchy takes place in Charming.

In my opinion, Prince Charming eats Frosted Lucky Charms.

Enough with the “in my opinion” please. We get it…

I was not impressed with the first episode.
Now that most of my favorite characters are gone, I will probably not watch the show anymore.

…How does that make sense to have a girl from Lima, Ohio wear Marc Jacobs?

Why does being “fashion forward” mean wearing expensive labels? Cant you look good and be fashionable on a regular budget? My opinion is yes. Most high schoolers aren’t wearing Mark Jacobs. I think keeping the originality was an important part of these characters.

I agree most kids do not wear fashion clothing in HS.
I miss Finn so much he was my fav…not sure if I will watch.

Don’t like Kate playing mean either its just not her…

Glee was on Thursday the 13th. This article was written on Friday the 14th. (FYI)
I still like the show. I have always liked the show. It is nice to see some of the characters actually grow up though. It is also nice to see that the high schoolers dont stay in high school for 7 or eight years as well. The season just started so maybe it will get better but I thoroughly enjoy the musical numbers. We never had a chorus or GLEE club like this in my high school.

I’ve noticed that all the girls on this show sort of dress the same now….before everyone was distinctly different. Tina was a goth, Rachel was dressed kinda prissy, Quinn was in her cheerleading outfit….Now they all dress like high end hippies…..no me gusta

I heard this chick from glee is really into this singer/songwriter from NY…produces all his own music..very impressive google him:

OMG, people…it is a SHOW! It is not supposed to be realistic. It is supposed to be entertaining when we have nothing better to do. And yes, there are lots of spoiled little rich girls that wear designer clothing in high school. Believe me, I see them roam the halls every day. The show is fun, not a literary masterpiece. Just enjoy it…and if you don’t enjoy it, don’t watch.

I miss Tina’s goth look, it was much better than her season 3 style. & since when are average high school kids wearing Marc Jacobs, sure someone rich like Quinn probably would but I don’t remember any references to Tina being rich at all I’m pretty sure she’s just average. I do like Rachel’s new look, she looks hot, and usually still looks like herself (although I miss her colourful outfits, the past few episodes she’s just been wearing black)
