What We’re Loving: Selena Gomez’s Sexy Style Transformation

From cute to couture, it’s official: Selena Gomez is no longer a Disney princess. Though we’ve always paid attention to the 20-year-old’s stellar style, the ensembles she’s selected in the past week or so have really turned our heads.
See, for most of her career, Gomez has gone with a sweet, flirty look, as she did in a cute, but rather safe white getup worn to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards (left).
Fast-forward to last week’s Venice Film Festival, where the actress worked a gold-and-black Dolce & Gabbana number (second from left) at a photocall for her new film, Spring Breakers. It’s an outfit we didn’t imagine Justin Bieber‘s girlfriend wearing — and really pulling off — just one year ago.
The glam transformation comes at a pivotal time in the star’s career. Not only is she getting older, but she’s also taking on more mature acting roles, like the one in Spring Breakers, in which she stars alongside James Franco.
That maturity is evident on the red carpet, too; for the movie’s premiere in Venice, Gomez wowed in a blush Atelier Versace gown (center). Days later, for a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival, she earned high marks again in a sexy, sophisticated leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana sheath (second from right).
But it was her latest look — a pale purple, frothy Marchesa confection (right) — that made us believe the star has hit a turning point in her red carpet career. It’s daring, beautiful, bold … and gets us excited to see what she wears next. Tell us: Are you a fan of Gomez’s red carpet style upgrade?
