What’s Up with Amy Adams’s New Hairdo?

Well, here’s one hairstyle we won’t be including in our Instant Makeover tool! It’s Amy Adams‘s voluminous updo. But before you jump to judgment, know that it’s for a role — and it’s a wig.

The actress was photographed wearing the faux mane last Thursday during the opening night production of Into the Woods (part of the famous Shakespeare In The Park series in N.Y.C.). The musical combines six Grimms’ fairy tales into one story, and Adams plays the baker’s wife.

Though the New York Times was complimentary of her acting skills (“a lucidly spoken and sung performance”), they felt a tad differently about her hair, calling it a “furry tea cozy of a wig” and a “handicap” she had to overcome onstage. (We would add that it looks like Adams had to walk through a wind tunnel to get to the set.)

But we really can’t hate on her hair. In fact, we sort of love that Adams was open to going all out for a role, even if it meant hiding her gorgeous hair under a messy wig. Tell us: What do you think of Adams’s wig — wild or wonderful? Do you like when actors ‘hide’ their beauty for a role?

I love her courage to wear this wig!

Courtney on

um it’s for work she’s in the play into the woods as part of broadway in the park for a few weeks this summer

amy on

Courtney, it clearly says that in the piece if you had read it. Thanks for the information, though. Did you only read the title?

whatever on

lmao, wow

D on

love when actors/actresses transform themselves for a role!

Rachel on

I think the hairstyle is sort of ridiculous but very secondary and unimportant considering she’s starring in a wonderful role in a wonderful musical. Isn’t the talent a little tiny bit more important then a “meh” hairstyle?

Crick on

Ummm…it’s for her role, why would anyone give a fcuk? This article is written like its something negative she should be embarrassed about, it’s a wig for a part. Dumb@sses.

All the characters in this tale wear funny getups. my kids were in this production in our local summer theatre. It was absolutely cool. Got to see it to get a better idea of the costumes.

If I hadn’t read the article I would have thought she was playing one of those polygamy cult women.

AMY ON AUGUST 10! Get a life!! You surely need one. You sound illiterate and who knows what else! Ignore Amy.

If you work for the website that published the article about Amy Adams and her hair, give up on life. This reporting is like the Inquirer except you guys admit you’re lying in the third paragraph, rather than not admitting it at all. It’s pathetic. Not angry or annoyed with you, just sad that this type of article apparently gets you views. Sad for everyone.

Oh my. At first I thought she was playing a part for some kind of member of the FLDS.

I saw her in the show last night- it fits the character. She’s still fantastic. :)

Gaga and Pink still sport big hair!

This is a cross between a muscrat, a ushanka and a beehive.

One of my sister’s BFFs is in this show, playing one of Cinderella’s evil stepsisters. She literally has a taxidermy squirrel attached to her wig. The hair and costumes for this show are CRAZY, but it works with Sondheim.

I’m extremely impressed along with your writing abilities as neatly as with the structure to your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it your self? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to peer a nice blog like this one nowadays..

Actually this wig represents a part of a well known hairstyle from the 60′s & early 70;s which was a modern version of a hairstyle from the circa 1917 era called ” the gibson girl” The gibson gilr was a bit neater usually ending in a top knot, but that wig in the photo was the basic shape of it. It was one of the few unstructured updos of that period, meant to represent a woman who has quickly put up her hair after doing chores & needing to cool off.
I am a retired hairstlist & used to do that DO quite well. The topknot was usually a hairpiece in the 60′s &was VERY teased ( backcombed) in period times the volume & width was achieved with “rats” which were woven fabric or wool /fiber stuffed into a hairnet to pin onto your head & comb hair over it. These days extensions are a spinoff of that to create volume if a womans hair is fine or thinning..

Thank you.
