Red Carpet Trend Report: What’s Sizzling and What’s Fizzling

Sadly, summer is almost over (sorry, it’s true!), so we’re relishing in the last few weeks of wearing weather-appropriate minis, shorts and sandals — and it looks like our favorite stars are doing the same. So check out the two late-summer trends we’re loving, and the one we’re totally over:
Up: Shoes with unexpected embellishments: The wrong shoe can ruin an entire outfit, but our favorite stars have really been bringing it on the carpet. For example, don’t Rebecca Romijn‘s white floral kicks totally upgrade her simple LBD? We thought so.
Up: Dresses with pockets: A dress with pockets is nothing new, but a gorgeous gown with pockets? Yes, please! Rachel Weisz sported a structured black Christian Dior sheath that, surprisingly, was finished off with pockets. Jessica Biel also had simple storage on hand in her pink Dior dress.
Down: Chunky platform sandals: We know we said stars have been wearing hot shoes, but that doesn’t mean absolutely everyone has hit the mark. A flirty, feminine frock calls for a sexy sandal — not a bulky one like Hayden Panettiere‘s Jimmy Choo pair.
