Meet Music's Up-and-Comers, Starring in Gap's Latest Campaign

08/07/2012 at 01:00 PM ET

You probably haven’t heard of all the young stars featured in Gap‘s latest ad campaign — but that’s about to change.

The clothing company tapped some of the music and dance world’s up-and-comers — pop duo Karmin, pro dancer Lil’ Buck, singer-songwriter Lia Ices, musicians Seth and Scott Avett (a.k.a. the Avett Brothers), ballet dancer Yuan Yuan Tan, musician Kaki King and singer-songwriter Nicki Bluhm — to represent its 2012 “Icon Redefined” men’s and women’s clothing collections through its “Shine” campaign.

In the behind-the-scenes clip above, we meet the Avett Brothers — who admit they used to visit the Gap to meet girls — plus Karmin, Lil’ Buck and Kaki King, all on set for their Gap shoots, where they were photographed while performing their art form in motion. And they obviously felt right at home; as Lil’ Buck said, “It’s like a family already.”

See more from Gap’s new stars in the clip above, and check the brand’s YouTube, Facebook and Foursquare pages this fall to hear and see more from these new stars. Tell us: Do you like the fact that Gap didn’t use mainstream celebrities for its latest campaign?

I think it’s kind of funny that the Avetts are considered “up-and-comers” considering that they’ve been around for years (and played at the Grammys with Bob Dylan and Mumford & Sons a couple years ago…). Regardless, though, I’m happy they’re getting the attention they deserve! They are really fantastic people and musicians. I’m looking forward to checking out the other people in this ad, too. They all seem interesting and talented.

The Avetts have been “up and coming” for over 10 years… Their music is a beautiful gift and their honesty and integrity is inspiring. I hope they can touch others as much as they have me and my family.
