FIRST LOOK: Natalie Portman’s Ethereal White Wedding Dress

She is so beautiful, but this might be the worst wedding dress of all time. It doesn’t even look like it fits her properly.

No. Just, no. This is definitely not an ICONIC look that anyone is likely to emulate. If she can’t make it look good, who could? Yup, no one.

I think she is pregnant.

It’s her mother’s wedding dress. It is often a tradition to do this and the style would fit the time. AND that sourceless quote mentioned elsewhere on the web on the fact that ‘[Natalie] may not even wear a new dess.’

Refreshing to see something different than the oh-so-tired strapless look that we always see. I love the fact that she is confident to be an original…I think it suits her wedding perfectly!

ew ew ew. looks like a little girl dress –where’s the patent white leather Mary Jane shoes with the straps? There are so many gorgeous dresses, this one is already forgotten. A simple white silk gown with a slight train would’ve been stunning at Big Sur….sigh.

One never sees her smiling so broadly… I’ll bet in this shot she just caught sight of Aleph! But I agree… hopefully, at a different angle, the dress looks better than here.
Hope they’ll be happily wed for a long time.

Wow I am surprised. It wouldn’t be so bad if it actually fit. Didn’t they do a fitting? Also the hair and headpiece doesn’t look right with the dress. Only way you get away wearing that is wearing something actually ethereal to go with it. maybe a something that draped or a dress with an empire waist and cap sleaves or something. It’s her wedding though and as long as she’s happy with it that’s all that matters.

This is a good example how proper fit can make all the difference. She has a great figure and this dress makes her look several sizes bigger. Anything that makes her smile like that is the perfect dress though.

You mean “coincidentally,” not “ironically.” It drives me crazy that so few get that right.

She could have done something much better than this dress.. like everyone said it doesn’t suit her very well and her age just isn’t reflective of the dress well either.

The dress wouldn’t have been so bad if she didn’t pair it with both the crown of flowers and a veil. If she kept it simple with just maybe a cuple f flowers than it would have looked soo much better. The dress is pretty but the accessories ruined it.

I dont think the dress is becoming. It is far too puffy but if she likes it then oh well.. She is a pretty lady regardless.

It is a nice change from those strapless dresses that everyone wears now. She looks happy and that is all that matters.

thank goodness someone had the nerve to wear a dress that doesn’t look like she is trolling or asks for payment up front. no boobs hanging out or shoulders bare where anyone can see all her tattoos (classy!). don’t know if ms. portman has tattoos but just making a point.

She’s a lovely young woman, but the fit of this dress is poor. The sleeves look a bit long and baggy, and ‘tea length’ is not flattering on anyone.

I think the dress is ok. Would have liked to see her in a long slimming dress to show off her pretty figure. But her hair & that flower halo is for a flower girl… Lol… If she had it up with some lil curlys around her face, & a pretty necklace on then it might have looked right on her.

So many irrelevent opinions on here about HER dress! Individuality is what sets her apart from the rest of the look alikes in this world. Congrats to her! :)

Ok, apparently money will not buy you good taste in fashion.

It looks like a flower girl dress or a really bad bridesmaid dress. It might not be too bad if it didn’t have the sheer overlay, though. Natalie wears gorgeous clothes, but this wasn’t really her best choice. :(

That dress reminds me of something from the 80s. But hey it’s her wedding day and her choice. So it really doesn’t matter if anyone hates it or not.

Did you read the story. The dress is not her mothers. It is new and was made by Rodarte. Where did you get the info that she wore her mother’s dress?

The dress is lovely, but it wasn’t the right one for her small frame and 5’3″ height. Pairing it with flats, the ensemble unfortunately makes her look like a large child.

Natalie was herself and not someone else on her special wedding day .She looked fantastic and down to earth .I wish them both happiness and a long marriage together through the years .I loved the simple dress and flowers in her hair .Why do people think every movie star has to be in a way out dress and $$$$$$$$$$ ceremony ,they did it their way .

It’s boring…she could have done better. Her Oscar dress was much more elegant than this get up.

Natalie is very pretty but when i first saw this dress i thought it looked a bit like a communion dress.

The dress is really sweet. Everyone posting negative comments is just not used to seeing someone dressed without their bustline hangin out, or wearing a super tight fitting dress. To me, this shows that Natalie takes her vows seriously and was not looking for the spotlight.

Don’t like the dress at all. Definitely would have axed the flower crown as well. It just doesn’t look right and doesn’t go with the style of dress either. Isn’t it interesting the choices people make when they have literally everything within the realm of possibility to select from? However, CONGRATULATIONS to the couple! :)

It doesn’t matter what we think. What matters is that Natalie chose it because she liked it and it was appropriate for the occasion. So that being said I wish them many blessings on their future together.

She looks so happy and that is all that counts, but I would have to agree with other post on here that the dress does not look right on her.

Ethereal???? That’s about as ethereal as a brick wall ! I had a dress like that in Junior High back in the 1040′s. With her money, she could have had a beautiful lace or a pure silk, but that thing???? YUK

I’m telling you, she looks pregnant. Seems like this dress has become an icon in itself. If the dress was a person it would baby talk and skip through daisy’s in grassy meadows. If I wore her dress my grandmother would commit me! If I got married in this dress my husband would not have sex with me.

It’s, um, very modest if that was her goal, but not very flattering. I’ve seen far more flattering and modest dresses on other brides, but it’s her wedding, so if she liked it, that’s all that matters. And she’s beautiful enough to elevate the dress, if not completely redeem it.

Natalie looks so happy! I am thrilled to NOT see a strapless wedding dress on her. And/or form-fitted with a mermaid hem – overdone to death. This dress has a sweet, retro feel to it and reminds me of my Aunt’s precious wedding dress from 1960. Very Audrey Hepburn.

Please stop saying that the dress looks Audrey Hepburn-esc. Audrey had a better sense of style and sophistication and would not wear a child’s dress to her wedding.

those sleeves make her arms look like an 80′s wrestler ( leg of mutton). you can be modest and have a sleeved wedding dress thats tastefully done and most imp well fitted specially if you can afford couture. that hemline is getting outdated as we speak. what a pity coz she is lovely and dresses well usually. dont let your friends design for you! OY!

Ntalie Portman is such a beautiful woman. What was she thinking when she said OK to this blah sack to wear on her wedding day??? The Mulleavy Sisters are no friends to Natalie. Proving this by allowing her to walk down the aisle in this Rodarte 3rd grade sewing project. Modesty pairs with elegance quite beautifully. Sadly, modest frump is what we have here.

Shea – Audrey’s wedding dress worn to marry Mel Ferrer was described as a ‘tea length frock worn with a floral wreath in her hair’. I realize that dress and Natalie’s are different but there are similarities. The wedding dress Audrey wore in Funny Face shares the same simplicity w/o sleeves as well as the lovely dress she wore to accept her Oscar for Roman Holiday. The other commonality would be both of the ladies minimalism. I love the detail, workmanship and fit of vintage dresses were I Natalie I would have searched for the perfect vintage dress to marry in if that’s the look I wanted. I did in fact were a Bianchi gown from the 50′s to marry my sweet hubby in 1997.

She is usually so impeccably dressed, but this doesn’t seem to fit her properly. The top and the arms are especially badly fitted.

@Freddy: If you can’t speak French why do you do it? You should have said: “Vive la mariée!” if you were just referring to Natalie or “Vive les mariés!” if you were referring to the couple. The same goes to the word fiancée (for a woman) and fiancé (for a man).

I love the idea of the dress. The modesty, the midninetees illusion look with the more moden simplcity but it just looks poorly executed. The tea length dress with the floral wreath looks very childish. More flower girl than bride.

Just proves to show that money does not buy you taste or a decent dress. Where were her friends and family when she picked out this dress? She looks like an 8 year old on her way to her communion. SMH

I saw some other photos on another website and I thought she looked beautiful… Honestly I think this dress is so much better then Drew Barrymore’s wedding dress, talk about not fitting right, but I like that more woman are changing it up and not going for dress (aka strapless). Not that I don’t like that look, it is just nice to see some variety.

I think it’s appropriate considering Her religion requirements and the fact that the retro look is in. It’s a great color for her and fits what’s trending now. For those who don’t know fashion/bridal fashion, do the research on what’s trending. It’s cute!

Purplepooch, did you even bother to read the story that goes with the picture?? If it was her mother’s dress, it would probably look better! It is not her mother’s dress; it’s a dress designed by Rodarte.

I wouldn’t call it unadorned as unshaped…and why long sleeves in the middle of summer…anywhere? it looks like a borrowed first communion dress that someone else wore better. She does look very happy though.

Natalie Portman could wear a burlap sack and still look good.

Take the sleeves off. It would have made a bif difference in the dress if it would have been pretty cap sleeves or even no sleeves at all. Those sleeves make herlook large and blocky.

She is so elegant and dresses beautifully albeit modestly, but this dress was too frumpy. I love the nod to the long sleeves, but it was not a good fit. I thought her stylist could have done a better job. I get the simplicity factor, but this was too much.

No, it’s not my fave, but for an outdoor wedding in Big Sur I can see how you might not want something dragging the ground, and also something you could wear with flats that is a bit more casual. It’s cute (cutesy might be more like it). I do like how it’s a bit lower in back.
