Like the rest of the world, we’ve had Olympic fever (um, hello Gabrielle Douglas!) over here at StyleWatch, but don’t fret: we still kept an eye on all the red carpet happenings, too! So on this Friday afternoon, here are the two trends that win a gold medal from us, and the one that didn’t even place:

Up: Matching your mani and kicks: The nail-art craze has gone wild this summer, but Jessica Biel took the trend one step further. She matched her platinum-tipped manicure to her Louis Vuitton cap-toe heels — so clever, yet so simple. We love a girl who pays attention to (style) detail.

Up: Ultra-pretty updos: We might not be crazy about severe hairstyles, but we are utterly obsessed with feminine and elegant ‘dos. Case in point: Kate‘s low, side chignon. The Duchess proved a pulled-back look can be just as fresh as on-trend boho braids.

Down: Daytime looks on the red carpet: We’re all about casual Fridays, but casual red carpet looks? We just can’t get on board. As much as we love a star with fabulous street style, we think the fashion should be taken up a few notches for the red carpet. OK, Olivia Munn?

Can’t get enough Trend Report? Find out what we think about nude lips, body-skimming sheaths and ankle-strap heels.
