Guess that $55,000 was well worth it! The Duchess of Cambridge tops the Vanity Fair best-dressed list this year, nabbing a spot for the third year in a row.

The magazine lauds Kate’s recognition of British designers — Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley and Matthew Williamson among them — as well as her ability to mix high- and lower-end styles.

Joining Kate is her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, who makes the list for the first time ever (sadly, Prince William is not named). Rounding out the famous royals is Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi, daughter of Princess Caroline.

There’s major Hollywood representation on the roster, as well: newcomer Jessica Chastain also lands atop the list, joined by Diane Kruger (making it for a second time), Fan Bingbing, plus Colin Firth and his eco-conscious wife, Livia. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys represent the music world, while New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz earn props for their off-field looks.

Matt Lauer, Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet and designer Stella McCartney are also applauded for their senses of style. The September 2012 issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands nationwide on Aug. 7; to see the full list, click here. Tell us: Do you think Kate deserves top honors? Which other celebrities would you put on the best-dressed list?

Tiffany, I’m sure she doesn’t mind being called Kate, but its the “Middleton” part that is wrong. She is a married woman and did not keep her maiden name.

The Duchess always looks impeccable and elegant and does it by mixing high end designer pieces with lower end priced clothing- that is inspirational to all of us on a budget for sure- Way to go Kate!

Williams last name isn’t Windsor it’s Wales. He is from the House of Windsor.

55000 is not much for a celebrity…however…the princess probably has designers sending her clothes for free. I would if I was a designer. What better way for a designer to advertise their clothes.
The princess is one of a kind and a great role model to young girls.

Kelly, Prince Williams surname is Mountbatten-Windsor……if you don’t believe me google it.

Kelly also he is Prince of Wales.

This woman always looks so well put together. She is beautiful, petite, perfect hair. If Princess Dianna was alive today she would be so proud of Kate as a daughter-in-law. I bet they would be great friends.

the Dutchess of Cambridge (Kate) Is one who influences fashion. It is clear that she wears the outfits because she likes it, and she looks wonderful!

$55,000 budget? Hardly. That’s the allowance she gets from the Prince of Wales’s accounts as an official member of his family, but that’s NOT the only money she gets to spend clothes on! She is from a wealthy family and I am willing to be she gets an annual allowance from them as well as money from Prince William who is hardly a pauper and this year inherited funds from his late mother’s estate.
