Kate’s ‘Marie Claire’ Photoshop Job: Fun or Freaky?

We know it’s probably impossible to get the Duchess of Cambridge on a magazine cover — but is faking it really the way to go? That’s the route Marie Claire South Africa took for its August issue, taking Kate’s smiling face and pasting it on a model’s body in an admittedly fake fashion spread.

The story itself focuses on South Africa’s budding designers, and since Kate has become such a fashion icon, the Photoshopping is a way to ‘dress’ her in those designers’ garments through the wacky pics and some additional sketches, too. There’s even an interview with the model who served as Kate’s body double. (“Playing Duchess for a day was a good reminder that somewhere inside of me (and all of us) resides a princess,” she says.)

We know the spread is all in good fun — and fashion — but does it go too far? What do you think? Vote in our poll below, and leave your thoughts in the comments!

How can this be legal? Also I don’t think she would of consented to this the copy laws must be different in South Africa. Plus the story banner right by her head ” My husband makes millions off his infidelity website” not very respectful to Kate. The royal family has done work for that country in charity. It seems to me they could find a more respectful way to honor her likeness.

I think it is refreshing to see Kate dressed like this (fun) rather than the 80 yr old she always looks like..even if it is fake. Maybe she should pay attention.

I know that we will hear the comments PETA is going to about this picture.

Trust me, they will have a field day.

Who approved this – it isn’t even remotely executed well. Her right hand placement on the cover just looks downright bizarre. Kate is a fashion icon, but this article doesn’t portray that in any way. Tacky beyond belief. Unless they meant to say taxidermy icon.

I don’t think some of you know what “illegal” means. There is nothing illegal about this at all. It is VERY obviously stated — right there on the cover — that this is not the real Kate, so if you were taken in, you fail at reading comprehension and shouldn’t be buying magazines anyway.

They must be desperate to get someone on the cover if they can’t even get a real person…

I thought Marie Claire was a reputable magazine. Guess not.

This is WRONG on so many levels. The American public is messed up enough with their body images due to airbrushing, and manipulating photographs of already beautiful/handsome models. This is taking things way to far. American and worldwide women need to embrace their curves- sagging breasts, curvy thighs, and round butts… and God forbid even wrinkles. Why do magazines believe seeing unreal people will sell. Shame on them for manipulating Kate. Shame on them for not embracing reality! The only way to teach these magazines a lesson is to stop buying them and stop buying any items advertised by these companies and letting them know about it by phone, emails, and media attention!
