Kate's 'Marie Claire' Photoshop Job: Fun or Freaky?

We know it’s probably impossible to get the Duchess of Cambridge on a magazine cover — but is faking it really the way to go? That’s the route Marie Claire South Africa took for its August issue, taking Kate’s smiling face and pasting it on a model’s body in an admittedly fake fashion spread.

The story itself focuses on South Africa’s budding designers, and since Kate has become such a fashion icon, the Photoshopping is a way to ‘dress’ her in those designers’ garments through the wacky pics and some additional sketches, too. There’s even an interview with the model who served as Kate’s body double. (“Playing Duchess for a day was a good reminder that somewhere inside of me (and all of us) resides a princess,” she says.)

We know the spread is all in good fun — and fashion — but does it go too far? What do you think? Vote in our poll below, and leave your thoughts in the comments!

Wow. Has to be something illegal in that somewhere aside from the completely unethical part.

It’s just ridiculously fake and awkward. You’d think Marie Claire would have better graphic designers than this. Time to retake Photoshop 101.

I think the obviousness in the low quality Photoshop job hopes to let people know she did not pose for these pictures. The sloppiness seems to be intentional, but I’m not sure they achieved their goal.

They’re wanting to get sued. Would have been better off having the model hold up cardboard face cut outs.

It is highly unethical, no need to buy their magazines if they lie like that. Can’t trust anything printed in the magazine now.

It’s horrible. Her face looks like wax! She’s a classy woman, and Marie Claire just ruined it.

Hope they get sued bigtime. How crass. How illegal. I’m hoping millions and millions and millions of dollars, euros or whatever. And jailtime for whoever okayed it.

Isn’t she a big animal lover? If so, wouldn’t being in a picture with what appears to be stuffed dead animals be a bit offensive?

I’m pretty sure this isn’t legal. Aside from that, it’s ridiculous.
