Vera Wang and Husband Separate; Did Her Black Wedding Gowns Foreshadow a Split?

Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 bridal collection was heralded by critics for its beauty, elegance and unique color palette; many of the designer’s dresses were blush, nude and black. But looking back on those romantic gowns, one has to wonder: was there a hidden message inside?

Wang and husband Arthur Becker announced that they were separating on Wednesday, after 23 years of marriage (the couple wed in 1989 at New York’s Pierre Hotel, WWD reports). “They remain devoted parents to their two daughters,” Cecilia and Josephine, Wang’s company president, Mario Grauso, said in a statement to WWD.

Though Becker reportedly had his own business ventures, he was also involved in Wang’s company, which has expanded into makeup, fragrances, mass market, juniors, home goods and a lower-cost bridal line in recent years. However, a friend of the designer tells WWD that the couple “will not let this impact the running of the company. They have worked too hard to build it up.”

Wang, who started at Ralph Lauren in 1987 and opened her first private salon at New York’s Carlyle Hotel in 1990, famously designed Kim Kardashian‘s three opulent wedding gowns in 2011 (plus sister Khloé Kardashian Odom‘s dress in 2009), and created Hillary Scott’s custom gown for her January 2012 nuptials.

Yeah, that’s it, because she’s never designed clothing in black before… even though it’s practically her signature! BTW, have you seen her Spring 2013 wedding gown collection? Every dress is vivid red (every dress in both collections is also available in white). So People, what does red translate to in divorcese?

I saw an hour long documentary about Vera several years ago. There were scenes filmed in her home with her children and husband. Her husband seemed to be a sort of mean man, cynical and sarcastic, and made several snide comments about and to her. I wondered at the time why she would put up with that, and I’m not surprised to see they are divorcing. She probably got tired of his nastiness.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. The dresses were shown in black (and also gray and buff) in the U.S., but they were white and ivory on the European runways and they’re white and ivory in stores. It’s a dramatic runway show, as was her most recent one, which showcased bright red wedding dresses. How do dresses that were designed a year ago and runways last October relate to a divorce in July? They don’t.

I love the gown on the right. What’s wrong with black. I wore an emerald green gown because that’s my husband’s favorite color.

Black wedding dresses? Perfect for Halloween that’s it.

Love her designs and fragrance. Good luck to both of them.

That chick in the middle looks like death warmed over. There is nothing about these models that convey a happy occasion such as a wedding.
