Channing Tatum: ‘Sometimes a Thong Completely Betrays You’

Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Adam Rodríguez and Matt Bomer might be the actual stars of Magic Mike, but there’s a supporting cast member that hasn’t received as much recognition for the raunchy film: the thong!
The movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is about male strippers in Tampa, Fla., so ‘natch the actors each had to don the sexy undergarment several times during filming. Thinking back to those not-so-happy memories, the guys recently dished to The Hollywood Reporter about the trials and tribulations that occurred while wearing the super-small cover-ups:
Matthew McConaughey: “It’s a huge leap of faith to trust a thong,” the newly-married actor joked. “It’s your only protection up on stage. When I first tried it on, my body contorted. And I tried to get myself into every position to see what angles I was covering.”
Channing Tatum: “Sometimes a thong completely betrays you,” added the former male stripper. “[But] if everyone is dressed in a thong pretty much any conversation is going to be funny … It’s only weird if you make it weird.”
Joe Manganiello: “It’s hard to take yourself seriously with an American flag thong on with a strategically placed sparkler on the end of it,” the actor revealed. “Honestly, the hardest part of this movie was biting the inside of my mouth to keep from laughing, especially watching Matthew in a yellow Spandex top and tiny bike shorts, grinding on Alex Pettyfer in front of the mirror.”
