Drew Barrymore’s ‘Beautiful’ Wedding Dress: All the Details

06/08/2012 at 09:00 AM ET

Drew Barrymore Wedding

When your father-in-law-to-be is the former CEO of Chanel — and when your name is Drew Barrymore — commissioning a wedding dress is fairly easy. So on her big day, Barrymore wore a custom muslin and organza gown designed by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, tailored just for her during fittings in Paris and Los Angeles.

“I think she looked beautiful and it fit her strong personality,” Lagerfeld told InStyle.com of the dress this week.

Barrymore customized her gown — which featured a skirt embroidered with tulle flowers and feathers — with a black satin belt. “She wanted that,” Lagerfeld added to InStyle.com. “I loved it. I love her.”

The mom-to-be accessorized her look with Chanel fine jewelry, including the diamond and white-gold “Fil de Camelia” earrings and a vintage “Eventail” cuff, which included more than 14 carats of black and white diamonds.

Her veil was special, too; the bride spent quite a while searching for the perfect topper. “She wanted something traditional,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “Even though there are things about her that are very modern, it’s an old-world tradition she wanted to have.”

When the weather turned chilly during the reception (the festivities lasted until 1:30 a.m.!) Barrymore covered up with a black tweed Chanel jacket. And throughout the evening, she kept a smile on her face; a friend tells PEOPLE the bride “was radiant” on her big day, adding that she “looked gorgeous, completely relaxed and beautiful.”

Great wedding dress for Drew! So demure. I’m happy to see (finally) a wedding dress that doesn’t look like a prom gown! Be happy, Drew! You so deserve this.

not a fan of the dress either – it did look like a backwards sweater – happy for the both of them and their new little one on the way. Good Luck

… “her gown featured a skirt embroidered with tulle flowers and feathers — with a black satin belt.” AND .. it also featured a matronly collar, so she could look like “Little House On The Prairie”! UGH!

This style gives the appearance of g l of tse evnineg dresses. The long strips of material flows while walking with these dresses. These dresses are normally short or mini style dresses with the panels extending past the short part of the dress.
