See Diana DeGarmo’s Engagement Ring!

What a gem! For his surprise proposal on American Idol Wednesday night, Ace Young selected an 18-karat yellow gold, platinum and diamond engagement ring to present to longtime girlfriend Diana DeGarmo.

The David Webb sparkler, which features a 1-carat fancy yellow center stone, also boasts two side diamonds weighing .2 carats.

Young helped to design the ring, after hearing DeGarmo drop a hint. “A month ago, she said, ‘Gold needs to come back,’” Young told PEOPLE after Wednesday’s finale. “I was like, ‘I agree,’ so mental note. Her favorite thing is a sunflower and she loves yellow, so one of our dear friends [helped me] put together a ring that has a yellow diamond, a gold band and two smaller diamonds on the side that are clear, so it’s like a sunflower.”

The couple, who’ve been together for two years, met in the spring of 2010 when both signed on to costar in the Broadway revival of the musical Hair. DeGarmo appeared on Idol season three, while Young was on season five.

That was pretty bold of him to propose not only in front of a live audience, but to millions of people watching on TV. Good thing she said yes!

I did not know Ace was in Hair so that explains his style. I am happy for this couple but I do not think it was necessary to propose like that. Just like American Idol, it seemed so fake. It should be a private thing, not something seen by millions. The ring is pretty and I guess we are so jaded by other celebs’ rings that we think it is small. Most normal ladies are wearing rings exactly like it. So best of luck to Ace and Diana. They truly look like they are best friends and that is very important in a marriage.

I think all the ones on here that are slamming the ring or the couple must be very lonely. Who cares if he got the ring for free or if the ring has a small diamond. I don’t even wear real diamonds anymore. I wear the fakes for my wedding ring but my marriage is rock solid still after 20 yrs together, while everyone that I know that got married around me are getting divorced. There real rings did not make happy marriages so stop being so judgemental. I think they are going to gave a great marriage cause they are friends and that is what makes a happy marriage being best friends and then husband and wife,parents, etc
