Cameron Diaz Cried After Chopping Her Hair

Cameron Diaz recently told InStyle her short haircut was “freeing” — but she had very different words for Jay Leno Tuesday night.

“There was a little misunderstanding,” she explained on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno of her pre-Christmas cut. “I said, ‘Oh I just want a little bit off’ … and it went from here to here,” she added, gesturing two very different hair lengths.

Once Diaz saw the new do, her reaction wasn’t so pleasant. “I just burst into tears and started crying, and I felt so vulnerable,” she explained. “For a woman to all of a sudden have no hair, oh my god.”

What made the situation even more awkward was the fact that Diaz’s hairstylist happened to be a good friend. “I felt really bad, she felt really bad, she started crying, I started crying, a couple of other people started crying,” Diaz said. But soon the situation smoothed over. “I ended up writing her a few emails after, the next couple days, assuring her I wasn’t going to kill her.”

As Leno pointed out, it’s unique that Diaz gets her haircuts from a friend (in that friend’s kitchen, no less) — not at a chic Los Angeles salon. But the actress said she’s been getting kitchen haircuts from this friend — and her own mother — for quite some time. She joked, “I’m in her kitchen often with the cape around my neck, going, ‘I hope we’re not going to cook after that.’” Tell us: Would you let a friend cut your hair?

I can totally relate. It would be wonderful to find a hairdresser that had the same visions that you have. But in their defense, they are not miracle workers.

I think it looks good and at least it’s her own hair. But… if she is not happy, she should get in touch with whomever does Lindsay Lohan or the Kardashian sisters hair. They have enough fake hair on their heads for all of Hollywood.

I find it quite hypocritical when many a women has had a bad haircut and complained later to her friends about it. When you have long hair and expect for an inch and it cut that short it feels like all your hair is gone. Honestly people is their any need to be that mean and hateful. If anyone needs to rethink themselves is the people who have nothing better to do with their time then be hateful.

I think it’s pretty dumb to have the reaction that not only her, but her friend and a couple of others were crying because of a misunderstanding that left her hair shorter than she wanted. I had a friend diagnosed with breast cancer at 31 who cried when she started losing clumps of hair due to her treatments. Through everything she was incredibly brave and her wigs became great accessories. She had them in every color of the rainbow including hot pink, one of her favorites. Shame on People for even printing a story like this. Oh no, a rich celeb who can afford to have the best extensions put in, had her hair cut too short. Are you kidding?!

I love Cameron’s hair like this. I do think most of us woman can relate though to saying to cut this much and having it cut a lot more then you asked. I’ve cried before after having that done. Then, like Cameron, you get used to it and actually start liking it. My friend has cut my hair at home now for over twenty years so I can also relate to that. lol

Hey, I’m with CAmeron, I have been in that situation adn I cried like a little kid…you go there and say PLEASE JUST cut 1″ and suddenly when you look at the mirror is more than 4″..that reaction is natural in females that love long hair… same thing happened to my sister in law 2 weeks ago and she cried for days looooool…then we get used to it ..

I understand being really annoyed when a stylist cuts more than you told them too, but get over yourself Cameron. “No hair”? Honey, your hair is not even SHORT! It will grow back! Drama queen!

Can’t believe the amount of rude comments below, geeze. And on the real topic, I would have cried too if someone cut my hair off like that & it wasn’t what I wanted. I actually have cried before when my hair was cut wrong, I knew it was silly, it’s just hair but still. I don’t see anything wrong w/her reaction. But don’t worry Cam, it’ll grow back!!
