Sarah Jessica Parker: Three Nights, Three Gowns, Three Coats

We’re sensing a trend! Sarah Jessica Parker has made three glamorous appearances in the past few days, wearing similar silhouettes to each.
Saturday night, she popped up in Chicago at a gala benefit for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital (left), wearing a full-skirt Rochas gown that she covered with a sleek coat. Monday, she reappeared in New York (center), this time choosing a vintage Oscar de la Renta gown and ivory shrug to celebrate photographer Bill Cunningham at Carnegie Hall.
Her latest coat-gown combo came Tuesday (right), when she stepped out to support husband Matthew Broderick at his Broadway opening wearing another Rochas dress — this one ivory — covered up with a long coat by Jil Sander.
Parker has always been a big fan of the coat-dress combo, whether adding a pop of color to an outfit with some outerwear or bringing edge to a feminine look with a moto jacket. And who could forget her Sex and the City finale ensemble, which also included a pretty, poufy dress topped off with an ivory blazer? It may not be the most revolutionary pairing, but SJP is definitely starting to own it. Tell us: Do you ever pair fancy dresses with statement overcoats?
