That was fast! Just one month after landing a modeling contract with FORD Models’ FORD +, Kaela Humphries is starring in her first campaign, for The Limited’s new plus-size line, eloquii.

“It’s been really great,” Humphries tells PEOPLE. “The line is really fashion forward, the clothes fit and they look amazing. It’s been a really good experience.”

Humphries, older sis to Kris, had dabbled in modeling before last month, but only got serious about the industry recently. “I wasn’t ever like, ‘I’m going to be a model,'” she recalls. “I was a medical sales rep until last month.”

But four years ago, she was “discovered” by an agency rep in her home state of Minnesota, and “did little things here and there,” she says, before getting picked up by Wilhelmina models and ultimately appearing in spreads for Nordstrom and Kohl’s.

After a few years, Wilhelmina released her, so Humphries met with FORD + “to gauge if I had what it takes,” she explains. Obviously she did … and the rest is history. Tell us: What do you think of Humphries’s eloquii campaign?

I don’t think she’s overweight. the 1st outfit i like, the 2nd one makes her look bigger than she is.

I am 5’3″ and weigh about 156 (depending on the day), and I look just like Kaela. I have to say, there is no question that women today are generally way overweight. We may talk about hunger and how there’s not enough food, but so many people overeat as a habit, they aren’t eating in a healthy way, and they fool themselves into thinking they are “normal-looking” when they are fat. I am facing that fact myself recently, because I have gone from 125-130, to 155-160lbs, and hardly even noticed it was happening since almost everyone I knew pretty much weighed what I do. It has affected my mobility and my activity level, as well as what I think about myself. Before you jump down my throat, I had that “light-bulb moment” while I was looking in the mirror while washing my hands after eating fried chicken, and I realized how much I had changed how I prepare food, what I think is a “normal” amount of food, and my activity level all of which resulted in an unhealthy weight gain.

We cannot allow ourselves to fall into the trap of thinking Kaela is the new normal and that’s what a “real woman with curves” looks like. She is overweight and while she has every right to look nice and have nice choices in clothes, she IS overweight and American women should, in general, be looking great in their nice clothes while getting to a true normal, healthy weight, which would be about 45 lbs less than what she truly weighs, not what she says she weighs. 14-16 should NOT be the average size. An 8, maybe, but not a 14-16. (And PLEASE, clothing industry, stop changing the sizes; it keeps people from understanding what they are doing to themselves.)

She’s beautiful. And yes, of course she’s plus size. A plus size model may look “small” compared to most American women, but that’s because most American women are overweight and/or obese. I’m getting a little tired of posters on stories like this saying “I can’t believe she’s plus size, she’s not big!” because they’re operating from a skewed, overweight standard.

Beautiful young woman… Clothes look great, too; VERY fashionable!

I can say one thing about her. She has a good self image… fat… skinny… curvy or obese. Something that most people don’t have in America.

good luck Keaela.

Unless you are as skinny as a bean pole, in this country you are considered big or plus size.

Yes I agree. I think she looks fantastic, but I would agree with ‘plus size’ labelling. I am 5’8″ and 155 and I fit size 3-4 jeans, and small waisted. People often tell me I am quite skinny for my height. She is not at all obese, but not average. I think she is fastastic tho! Wonderful representation of a fuller size woman!

she actually looks like a normal person!

It’s not even her weight, I just think she would never have gotten signed without the Kardashian wedding. At least the family profited somehow, although if they had class they would turn down offers…
