Claire Danes Calls Herself a 'Sales Slut'
In the latest issue of Asos magazine, Claire Danes rattles off the list of her high-fashion friends. There’s Narciso Rodriguez, who designed her wedding gown; Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, who designed her husband Hugh Dancy’s wedding suit; plus Miuccia Prada and the one and only Valentino.
But despite those haute hangers-on, Danes says she’s all about value shopping. “I’m a sales slut,” she admits. “I’m just very seduced by a sale. I go through phases where sometimes I’m a fiend and then there are dry spells that can last for months.”
Singling out stores like Legacy, Opening Ceremony and Prada as her favorites, the Homeland star says her wardrobe “is a mix of vintage and contemporary stuff.” And a lot of jeans. “[But] it’s so funny with jeans now, because if they don’t feel like a pair of sweatpants, I don’t have patience for them any more! I think I’m becoming increasingly lazy.”
She’s anything but lazy when she dresses for the red carpet, however. Except maybe for the 2012 Golden Globes. “I was quite worried about [what to wear],” she admits. “I didn’t have time to diet after the holidays, or do some juice cleanse, so I had got fatter and all my clothes were really tight.”
Luckily, the first dress she tried on — a black-and-white J. Mendel gown — fit perfectly. “Those things are fun but scary,” she says of awards shows, citing the judgment that comes along with them. “But I have a lot of help and I enjoy it.”
