We think we’ve seen it all from Katy Perry — cupcake bras, fruit-covered clothes, blue hair matched to blue dresses — but her makeup artist Jake Bailey tells Style.com the star “is evolving. I think she’s only begun to tap the surface of all the different looks she’s going to do in her career.”
Admitting that Perry likes to be over-the-top — “Maybe too much at times,” he shares — he insists she has “more fun than anyone else” when getting dolled up for video shoots and performances.
However, Bailey has been softening Perry’s look just a bit as she’s made the rounds at Paris Fashion Week. “She is respectful of the designers and she wants to represent,” he says. So according to Style.com, for Tuesday’s Chanel show (right) the two perused her wardrobe options, had a chat then chose a makeup look that made them each “really happy.”
One instance where the pair decided to go bold, however, was for Saturday’s Viktor & Rolf show (left). “They are such imaginative designers, and I thought the shift that she wore had a very ’60s look, so we went with a very ’60s mod eye,” he explains.
And though the friends often find themselves inspired by Perry’s clothes, much of their creativity comes from a pretty basic source: a mood board. “It’s a four-by-eight foam board,” Bailey explains, “and I put a lot of reference pictures up so we stay inspired.” Tell us: Do you enjoy experimenting with makeup?
