What Did Elizabeth Banks’s Fake ‘Hunger Games’ Nails Keep Her From Doing?

Elizabeth Banks spent more than two hours in the makeup chair every morning transforming into The Hunger Games‘s eccentric escort Effie Trinket, but that wasn’t the toughest part of the job. The actress admits to MTV.com that wearing her character’s fake nails every day really created some problems.

“Once they were on I literally couldn’t do anything,” she says. “I couldn’t iPhone, BlackBerry, use the computer. I couldn’t go to the bathroom. I couldn’t zip or unzip or do a button, I couldn’t wipe.” So maybe it’s TMI, but the actress considers it necessary knowledge. “I just want everyone to know how far we had to go to make The Hunger Games,” she jokes. (Since promotional photos of Effie Trinket’s nails aren’t available yet, we’ll have to wait until the movie is out to see them.)

Banks also has quite a wild wardrobe in the movie, but admits she was really excited about the clothes. “Effie is a very complicated character, and one of the things I loved about the costumes is that she’s technically a free person in this totalitarian society,” Banks explains. “She’s a resident of the Capitol, but the clothes are very constricting, restrictive. She can’t walk, she can barely breathe. I wanted that sense of oppression for her, and the easiest way to get it was in the clothes.” Tell us: Are you excited for The Hunger Games?

SOooooo excited! I don’t care if it’s a good adaptation or not, I still want to see it to flesh out the characters and storyline.
