Her halftime show scored mixed reviews (full disclosure: we loved it!) but Madonna‘s Super Bowl Sunday style was a total touchdown. The Material Girl performed a series of hits in an elaborate black-and-gold wardrobe made by Givenchy’s Ricardo Tisci (accented with megawatt earrings by Bulgari) and seamlessly transitioned between looks.

Madonna started her performance in a gold cape hand-embroidered with gold metal cut-out pieces, studs, crystals, sequins and paillettes, lined in a leopard-print chiffon. She paired that with a gold, crystal-covered hat. She then changed — on stage! — into a black mini-dress (top left) with a black python hand-studded and hand-embroidered belt with removable matching flaps. (The guys of LMFAO — who wore Beats by Dr. Dre headphones studded with 114 carats of Graff diamonds — peeled that off of her after their cameo.)

For the “Like a Prayer” finale — which featured Cee Lo Green — the singer covered up in a silk cady black coat hand-embroidered with black sequins and micro pearls (top right). Throughout the performance, she also wore hand-embroidered nappa leather gloves and killer black boots.

According to a release, “Madonna’s legendary music met Ricardo Tisci’s codes in what seemed to be the most perfect way.” And the designer himself was pleased with the results. “Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honor for me to be part of yet another historical and iconic moment.”

He continues, “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us music, but also to make such a statement of performance and fashion.” Tell us: What did you think of Madonna’s Super Bowl style? And did you enjoy her performance?

I truly enjoyed Madonna’s halftime show.
After having so many flub up’s with previous shows, she provided a great American football halftime show.

Great Half-time show Madonna despite the mishap

I thought the whole performance was boring…the outfits were OK….Kelly Clarkson looked and sounded way better than Madonna…oh wait ..that’s because she was live and not pre-recorded! Lady Gaga would have been way better!!

Sorry the material girl looks fantastic at her age and I’m disappointed she didn’t go with her figure flattering looks iconic of her over the years. She’s got a great body! Show it! I am sorry but I wasn’t impressed. She looks beautiful I will give her that but she moved super slow and cautious and it showed. She is well known for her over the top performance and I am sorry to say but this was not one of her better shows.

I admire the guts it took for someone like Madonna to perform at this event, such pressure, so much expectation for someone her age, who again needs to reinvent herself…I love her and admire her but I feel it fell short of all the hype. I was glad to see some great Cameos, but it all seemed a bit “Star Search meets Solid Gold” to me. Having seen her in her early years, I feel she is declining and can do so much better. One cannot deny her stamina, her willingness to do it all but LIPSYNCHING??? Really? Come on, she is so much better than that and that was a HUGE creative mistake. I adore the visuals created by our Montreal company, that was superb and avant- garde. I hope she learns from this and chooses to sing next time. Most of us prefer to hear a few pitchy notes to a recorded track.

i too think it was one of the best half time shows of all time, by far.. Truly amazing!

She was covered up like a Muslim. I assume this was because of NFL requirements…. then again, Madonna has always made fashion choices that left me scratching my head and asking, why, if you could wear anything in the world, would you wear THAT?

I am not dissing the designer, but for a hot rock performance, her costumes left me bored and itchy.
