Her halftime show scored mixed reviews (full disclosure: we loved it!) but Madonna‘s Super Bowl Sunday style was a total touchdown. The Material Girl performed a series of hits in an elaborate black-and-gold wardrobe made by Givenchy’s Ricardo Tisci (accented with megawatt earrings by Bulgari) and seamlessly transitioned between looks.

Madonna started her performance in a gold cape hand-embroidered with gold metal cut-out pieces, studs, crystals, sequins and paillettes, lined in a leopard-print chiffon. She paired that with a gold, crystal-covered hat. She then changed — on stage! — into a black mini-dress (top left) with a black python hand-studded and hand-embroidered belt with removable matching flaps. (The guys of LMFAO — who wore Beats by Dr. Dre headphones studded with 114 carats of Graff diamonds — peeled that off of her after their cameo.)

For the “Like a Prayer” finale — which featured Cee Lo Green — the singer covered up in a silk cady black coat hand-embroidered with black sequins and micro pearls (top right). Throughout the performance, she also wore hand-embroidered nappa leather gloves and killer black boots.

According to a release, “Madonna’s legendary music met Ricardo Tisci’s codes in what seemed to be the most perfect way.” And the designer himself was pleased with the results. “Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honor for me to be part of yet another historical and iconic moment.”

He continues, “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us music, but also to make such a statement of performance and fashion.” Tell us: What did you think of Madonna’s Super Bowl style? And did you enjoy her performance?

I love Madonna. That being said, her first outfit was very Liz Taylor as Cleopatra (which is fine and was visually stunning), but then her second outfit made her look like She-Ra’s evil twin and the last outfit made her look like a Cenobite (i.e. Pinhead). I kept waiting for her to give me a mystical puzzle box to solve. That being said, it was one of the better half-time performances I can remember in a very long time.

I thought she did a good job. She looks great too. He certainly doesn’t look 53. I’m glad she didn’t fall.

In comparison to some of the really bad half-time shows, you have to hand it to Madge. She did a great job. I just wish she didn’t have to have Niki, MIA or LMFAO up there with her – she could have done better solo…

She rocked it and I loved every minute of it! Madonna can do no wrong in my book!

@ Amber..Nonsense are your comments little girl… Honey, go home, and watch and learn, how it’s done @ 53 years old.. There’s no performer out there that can carry her tune at her age.. I liked to see what Lady Gaga, will be wearing at 53, a walker possibly.. PULZ,,, Lady Gaga..

I thought the show was awesome and Madonna looked good for her age the only thing is I noticed she wasnt moving to the beats of the music fast enough it seemed like she was afraid of falling or getting hurt.

Madonna’s performance was absolutely STUNNING & ENTERTAINING! She was, is and always will be the Queen of Pop. There really is no one who can compete with her. She has stood the test of time for thirty years and still creates dialogue. Her ratings for the show were higher than the actual game itself. Haters and critics have been trying to bring her down since she started, and part of Madonna’s genius is that she Doesn’t give a F#ck…Mad props to the highest selling female artist of all time. All bow down to the Queen.

Loved the performance. I have watched every halftime show since 1993 (Michael Jackson) and Madonna did a great job. She is still the one.
