When Chrissy Teigen‘s longtime beau John Legend popped the question over the holidays, the Sports Illustrated model wasn’t only surprised by the proposal, but by the ring, as well.

“It’s none of my doing at all,” she tells InStyle.com of the stunning sparkler. “All I know is that it’s a cushion cut, and I had never even heard of that before.”

The couple announced their engagement on Dec. 27 — Legend proposed while they were vacationing in the Maldives — and already, Teigen has been perusing magazines for dress ideas, even though she hasn’t yet set a date.

“I’m obsessed with dresses and it’s so hard to stop,” she shares. So any standouts yet? “I really love something about Monique Lhuillier. I think she’s so romantic and light and beautiful. I want to look like myself coming down the aisle, and I feel like Monique embodies what I want.”

However, don’t expect to see Teigen shopping at Kleinfeld anytime soon. As she says, “I don’t want to find [a dress] tomorrow and then have to wait a year.” Tell us: How many months before your wedding did you buy your dress?

Omg…that looks just like the ring my ex-girlfriend threw back at me when i asked her to marry me after she found nude pics of her cousin on my laptop.–hollywoodpinata. com

I bought my dress a week before the wedding. It was a two piece off-white St. John Knit street length dress. Not a fan of wedding dresses. It’s a total waste to buy an expensive dress that you’ll never wear again. Even though I could have well afforded to do so, there was no appeal to me. YMMV

I bought mine a week or two before the actual wedding, which was in May of 1991. It was a Jessica McClintock tea-length white lace and cotton dress which cost a little over $200. I realize I am not the norm, but I was young with only my best friend to help me and that was what I could afford on my own. Anyway, we’re still married!

I bought some clearance David’s Bridal dress for $350. I should say my mom did. It was not my dream dress but she cried when she saw me in it and since she was buying, I thought it would make her happy.

I’m not a wedding girl but I love to look at wedding dresses. But I couldn’t fathom spending that kind of money for the dress or wedding. I went to BR and bought a wine colored sheath ( same color as Miranda on SATC) and called it a day. We’ve been a married a decade.

I’m a bigger size so I had to order mine about 4 months ahead but it was absolutely perfect and I want to wear it everyday!

I dont get why women always want the big diamonds as an engagement ring or wedding ring, are you really that wasteful?

Kelly on

@Emry – are you really that judgemental?

AP on

-Emry… I’m sure that if your significant other where to give you a ring like that you would give it right back and say that it was wasteful. HA yeah right!! Don’t judge.
