Looking Perfect at Plus Size: Which Actress Dressed Best?

We admit we were drooling over Elle MacPherson last night — that body! that hair! — but some other ladies on the Golden Globes red carpet also had us doing double takes. Octavia Spencer, Melissa McCarthy and Amber Riely all swathed their curves in gorgeous designer gowns, highlighting their best features and leaving us with a case of fashion envy.

Spencer — who nabbed a best supporting actress award and gave another moving acceptance speech — looked lovely in a lavender Tadashi Shoji V-neck cap-sleeve gown with jewel detail. The Help star was still searching for a Globes gown last week, but definitely found a winner.

Meanwhile, funnygirl McCarthy opted against a design from her own label, and instead chose a long-sleeved V-neck emerald gown by Badgley Mischka, sticking with several of the night’s big trends. Glee‘s Riley selected a dress by the esteemed design duo, too, rocking the red carpet in a strapless fire-engine dress.

All three stars were perfect 10s in their Globes gowns, but we want to know what you think. Tell us: Which plus-size star dressed best?

I agree with Jen, completely unecessary. It shouldn’t matter that they’re “plus” sized, I love Amber Riley’s dress, I really don’t care what size she is, Her dress was amazing. People the magazine and people in general need to stop with the weight judging. Aslong asyou dressfor your body..big or small..you’ll look and feel amazing :)

This article is ridiculous.

I thought Queen Latifah looked the best in her dress.

Im sorry, but Melissa is not “plus sized”, she is just FAT!

Well Cate, she may be, but I’m sure your opinion of her doesn’t really matter. She’s happily married with children, has an amazing career and makes more money in a month than you probably make in a year. I’M PRETTY SURE you or your thoughts are not important to her. ;)

@Cate: Why feel the need to make such a rude and degrading comment? Are you perfectly porportioned according to the doctors charts? It’s people like you that make heavier people feel bad. You probably were a bully in school also.

I LOVE Melissa McCarthy but i don’t love this dress on her, and she wears such cute things on Mike and Molly! If i had to pick one, i’d pick Amber, but i really don’t consider her plus sized. It’s too bad that more designers don’t make plus sized gowns so that everyone can look fabulous!

First let me say they all are beautiful, now really People? Many woman in America and the world look like this. Now lets see you post an article on which anorexic looking actress wore their clothes best!

I think all three of these women look beautiful, but why aren’t they in the best/worst with all the other actresses? Leave their weight out of it. I find this very offensive and am very disappointed with PEOPLE.

The only completely unnecessary thing is for women to be this big. It’s unhealthy. I’m not saying looking like Megan Fox is healthy either. Kate Winslet has the ideal healthy body. I love that more and more female stars are gaining weight and showing off their bodies proudly. (Christina Aguilera for example) But these women are TOO big. It should not be praised.
