Molly Sims on Dressing Five Pounds Thinner

Molly Sims: New Website, Style Tips and Weight Loss
Albert Michael/Startraks

Molly Sims may be an accomplished model, television actress and glowing newlywed, but even she suffers from paradoxical fat days. “If you have a body part you don’t like, instead of worrying about it, find ways to cover it up so that you can feel good about yourself,” she tells New York. “I can put on five pounds and take off five pounds and you wouldn’t know it, because I know how to dress.”

It’s understanding her proportions — and what does and doesn’t work — that has earned Sims the role of stylist in her circle. “I just convinced one of my friends not to buy this green dress she wanted, and to buy this great black Helmut Lang jacket instead,” she says. “She wears it all the time, and she called me the other day to tell me that she’d just told another one of her friends to do the same thing.”

Avoiding trends is another way to keep your look lean and flattering. “Invest in great basics,” she recommends. “Get a great jacket, a great boyfriend cardigan, a beautiful scarf, and a great pair of skinny jeans and a great pair of normal jeans. You can put some trendy tank tops and colors underneath, but if you always invest in basics, you cannot go wrong.”

Nicole Richie: ‘Yes, My Style Has Changed’

Nicole Richie: My Style Has Changed

As Paris Hilton‘s outspoken sidekick on The Simple Life, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who could predict Nicole Richie‘s longevity. However, the fashion magnate, who was recently named ‘Influencer of the Year’ by the Accessories Council, is a little clairvoyant herself.

“I went through a serious choker phase,” she tells FASHIONetc. “I have a feeling they are going to be making a comeback very soon. Mark my words!”

For Richie, who acts as creative director for lines Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960, accessories signify more than just a moneymaker or an accolade accumulator. “Accessories speak volumes when it comes to a person’s wardrobe,” she explains, “especially when one is dressed down in jeans and T-shirt.”

Her motto? “There are no rules,” she says, which makes sense for a girl whose look is always evolving.”Yes, my style has changed,” she confesses, “but I have changed. It’s the natural process of becoming a woman. It’s not stopping here.”

Ricki Lake Thinks She’s Found Her Wedding Gown

Ricki Lake Wedding Dress

On Sunday night at the Trevor Project’s “Trevor Live at the Hollywood Palladium,” a fit and glowing Ricki Lake was ready to talk about her wedding plans — or at least the most important detail. “I may have found a dress,” the actress and former Dancing with the Stars finalist admitted to PEOPLE. “I have someone who has been looking for me. It’s vintage.”

As for the inspiration behind the gown, set to arrive at her house Monday, Lake said, “I wanted something simple, on the bias, and flattering. It’s got a lot of detail. It’s very pretty. I’m not going to say any more yet because I haven’t even seen it firsthand, I’ve just seen a picture!” She previously said she was waiting until Dancing was over to try on dresses, and lost a significant amount of weight while competing on the series.

Lake, who announced her engagement to Christian Evans in August, said the couple needs some time alone to get into the wedding planning. “We are just starting to talk about it. Next weekend we’re going away together and we’re going to try to start figuring out what we’re doing,” she revealed. “Then we’re going to Paris on holiday for two weeks and then we’ll start planning. But it’s going to be soon.” It might even be a destination wedding, Lake shared.

Madonna on Kate: ‘I’m a Fan of Her Style’

The Duchess can breathe easy: The Material Girl is a fan of Kate Middleton‘s wardrobe.

“She is a lovely girl with a great sense of style,” Madonna told PEOPLE at Sunday’s Cinema Society and Piaget screening of her directorial debut, W.E., in New York. “Her wedding dress by Alexander McQueen was very beautiful.”

Madonna added, “I like her choices. She’s elegant and still knows how to have some fun. I’m a fan of her style.”

Another look among the royal set that Madonna appreciates was that of Wallis Simpson — the American divorcée for whom King Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England to marry and the center of W.E., out in limited release on Dec. 9.

“She developed a style and stuck with it whether people were interested or not. I admire her individuality,” said the pop star and avid palace watcher, who “had an obsession with the royal family starting with Queen Victoria” while living in England in the mid-2000s.
