Queen Latifah Building Respect for the ‘Curvaceous Woman’

Her clothing line for HSN is selling like crazy, but Queen Latifah says finding clothes as a plus-size woman was at one time a constant struggle.

“A lot of manufacturers don’t respect the curvaceous woman,” she laments in the January issue of ESSENCE. “They don’t respect our dollar or our shape.” Thankfully, she’s found an understanding vendor in HSN. “[It's] been such a great partnership,” she says. “I’m happy to make women’s clothing I really like.”

In August, Latifah told PEOPLE she was designing for real women who want affordable, wearable fashion. “It’s really something you can incorporate into your existing wardrobe,” she said of the tops, jackets, jeans and handbags in the Queen Collection. “I mean these are things that are really beautiful, but they’re very wearable. We’re really trying to make sure that they have the best fabrics possible, that it feels good on the body. I’m a Pisces, I’m sensitive; I like things to feel good on my skin.”

And you think your job is tough! Flanked by four hunky guys, model Chanel Iman hit the streets of New York on Monday carrying some very precious cargo: a million-dollar bottle of DKNY’s new fragrance, Golden Delicious. OK, so maybe it’s not that tough of a job. But who better to guard the goods than the DKNY fragrance spokesmodel?

“It was fun,” she told PEOPLE of the task. “I had no idea that it was a whole production — as a model, you never know what you’re getting into.”

What Iman, the face of DKNY’s Be Delicious, was getting into was promoting the sale of the million-dollar scent, which is actually a bottle of Golden Delicious designed by jeweler Martin Katz and covered in 2,909 rare jewels from around the world, including 2,700 brilliant white diamonds, 183 yellow sapphires and one 2.43-carat yellow canary diamond.

Dita von Teese: Being Beautiful Takes Practice

Dita von Teese Shows Off Her Beauty Routine
Landov

A quick review of the past decade in the life of Dita von Teese and two things become abundantly clear: the woman never ages, and she always looks perfect.

There’s good reason for that: Von Teese’s trademark look — alabaster skin, doe eyes and pin-up curls — is the result of years of perfecting the routine. “Practice is everything when it comes to beauty,” she tells Stylist.co.uk readers. “If I don’t do my eyeliner for a week or so, I’m not so good at it.”

To that end, the burlesque star, who always does her own hair and makeup, relies on an arsenal of products including Diorific lipstick, M.A.C rougemarie nail polish and hot rollers for a photo finish.

And just because she recycles her red carpet looks doesn’t mean the star gets ready in a hurry. “One of the things that I do to have a glamorous day is take a bit of time to put on makeup and choose clothes that I like to wear,” she says, emphasizing the importance of an area designated to primping. “[Always] have a good vanity place to do your makeup and a place with good lighting — natural light is the best.”

Chris March and Chrissy Teigen Spar Over Shoulder Pads on ‘Mad Fashion’

Mad Fashion‘s Chris March created his first-ever Met Gala gown this year … but it wasn’t without a little blood, sweat and tears. The designer whipped up a hair- and feather-covered fantasy dress for supermodel Chrissy Teigen — John Legend’s longtime girlfriend — but the Sports Illustrated stunner wasn’t always on board with the eccentric designer’s ideas.

On Tuesday night’s season finale of Mad Fashion, March makes Teigen’s Black Swan-esque gown and has a few fittings with her, going back and forth about a leather neckpiece he originally conceived for the dress.

(Warning: Spoilers ahead!) Speaking to reporters during a New York City screening of the episode on Monday, March said he wished Teigen would’ve “gone with the original idea” for the dress. “John Legend was there, and he didn’t like it — he thought it made her look too masculine — so we had to ditch it and come up with something else at the last minute,” he shared.

Heidi Klum: Perfume ‘Is Like Great Underwear’

Heidi Klum Perfume
Andrea Renault/Polaris

She’s worn some of the sexiest lingerie in the world as a Victoria’s Secret model, but Heidi Klum believes there’s something even more sensual to wear under your clothes: perfume.

“For me, it’s something to complete the look. It’s almost kind of like great underwear,” she said. “No one can really see it but it makes you feel sassier and sexier.”

Speaking to PEOPLE at an event for her new fragrance, Shine, in New York’s Times Square last week, Klum said her scent — her first international fragrance — is “complicated. I really tried to look for something that didn’t exist, which is hard,” she explained. “I think 23 or 26 perfumes come out every year, and it’s hard to come up with something you haven’t smelled before.”

To that end, “Shine is a little more modern, powdery, but spicy,” she shared. “It’s a great marriage of sweet and spicy.” Notes include pink peppercorn, sunflower, lily of the valley, pear, mandarin orange and vanilla.
