Nina Garcia's Favorite Holiday Shop? Target!

In addition to her duties as fashion director at Marie Claire and a Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia is also a proponent for frugal fashion.

“I was at Target last week and went crazy,” she tells Racked. “I found the cutest charcoal sequined clutch for $17! It has a strap to wear cross-body or you can tuck the strap inside — voilà! Two different looks. My rule during the holidays is if it sparkles and shines and makes you feel fancy, wear it!”

That said, she always comes back to a less is more principal. “Coco Chanel gave us the best wisdom here: Before leaving the house, a lady should stop, look in the mirror, and remove one piece of jewelry,” she suggests. “If you are wondering if it’s too much, it probably is.”

And one thing that’s always too much? “No one over the age of 10 should buy Crocs — unless you are Mario Batali,” she says definitively.

Um, who is that broad anyway?? I have two pairs of crocs and I’ll wear them if I want to.. some people have the NERVE to try and dictate what to wear… duma$$….

Obviously, this girl does not work in a garden. My crocs are not fashion for me, but they are the best gardening shoes ever! Someone must be afraid to get her hands dirty ;)

This from a woman who probably never worked on her feet. I would not wear them for a dinner out, but they work for many people. IMO she needs to cut her hair and stop trying to look younger than she is. She comes across as very snobby on the show.

I’m a grown woman but no-one can come between me and my crocs! I wear them when out and about running errands etc very comfy. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Crocs are heinous! And people look absolutely ridiculous wearing them.

Fashion snobs gag me. Nobody should ever dictate what another person wears.

99.9% of the time – a person’s fashion depends on their income – and only an out of touch, uppity snob would make such a comment.

My father has neuropathy of the legs and these are the only shoes he can wear. Perhaps she should consider situations like this before sharing her “expert” opinions that no one cares about.

Oh, don’t be so sensitive, people! Like ALL fashion gurus would tell you, the whole purpose of Crocs was for garden use. One can understand why docs and vets (etc) where them because of possibly wet working conditions, but those who where them as everyday shoes…well, that’s just a little too sloppy. Nina was expressing her opinion and was by no means trying to “dictate” what the world wears. Get a grip, people.
