Ed Westwick’s ‘J. Edgar’ Fashion Dilemma? No Tailored Suits!

Ed Westwick is known for his dashing style on and off screen, so fans of the Gossip Girl bad boy will be in for a surprise when they see him dressed down in the movie J. Edgar, hitting theaters this week.

“For the first time, I wasn’t used to suits being completely tailored,” Westwick told PEOPLE at the Audi AFI Fest premiere of the film in Los Angeles last week. “That’s what I’m used to wearing … it was very different.”

In fact, the actor even had doubts when the costume department presented him with his suits. “I was like, ‘Hang on a minute. Are we sure?’” he shared. “But I guess, no, that’s the right thing. It was an interesting experience.”

While the actor recalled the less-than-flattering wardrobe required to play Agent Smith in the film, costar Lea Thompson gushed over the silky costumes — which she likened to nightgowns — that she wore to play Lela E. Rogers, the mother of movie legend Ginger.

Nicole Richie: Fashion Is ‘Not That Deep for Me’

Nicole Richie Personal Style Secrets
Kelly Jordan/Startraks

With her penchant for oversize sunglasses, sky-high heels and on-trend baubles, it’s understandable that the Accessories Council Excellence Awards named Nicole Richie its 2011 ‘Influencer of the Year.’

Less expected is the House of Harlow designer’s laid-back attitude toward personal style: “It’s not that deep for me,” she confesses to WWD. “It’s whatever I feel comfortable in at that time.”

A seasoned businesswoman, Richie’s first concern is the consumer. “To me, success isn’t measured by dollar signs,” she explains. “It’s really about paying attention to feedback and talking to my customer.”

Jessica Chastain ‘Could Never Be a Model’

Though she looked pretty darn model-y in amethyst Oscar de la Renta at the Hollywood premiere of The Help (left), Jessica Chastain says she can’t compete with the pros.

“There are some dresses that are so beautiful, the detail is so magnificent, but I can’t give them the justice they deserve,” she tells ASOS magazine. “It’s tough because I’m never going to look better than a catwalk model in a dress,” she continues. “I’m not a model, I could never be a model.”

Despite these self-professed shortcomings (she’s only 5-foot-4), the redhead beauty says she still loves fashion. “I always loved [it],” she laughs. “I just couldn’t afford it.”

Flash forward five years, and the star, who also appeared in this year’s The Tree of Life alongside Brad Pitt, has a healthy appetite for the stuff. “I absolutely adore [Louis] Vuitton,” she gushes. “I went to the show last year and it was such a celebration of the female body” — something she says she knows a little about. On the Mississippi set of The Help, “we would work all day, then go and eat because we had to gain weight,” she explains. “All of your clothes get too tight … But there’s something really sensual about being heavier, you feel like a painter’s muse.”

New tour, new look! Before she kicks off a series of concerts to promote her latest album, Unbroken, Demi Lovato is making a change — to her hair. The songstress debuted a bright red do on Twitter this week, posting photos after visiting a salon.

“Changing my hair color today,” she teased over the weekend, later writing, “Red hurr she don’t curr.” The next day, she shared a photo of the new red do, adding a second, “not as orange” shot Monday.

Lovato hasn’t gone too crazy with hair colors in recent years; last year she experimented with highlights, but soon returned to her trademark chocolate locks.

Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things Revealed!

Oprah's Favorite ThingsCourtesy O, The Oprah Magazine

This year may not bring all the crying, gasping and screaming we’re used to, but the unveiling of Oprah Winfrey‘s “Favorite Things” is still a must-see moment, and just in time for the holidays. The media mogul’s list appears in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine — and this year, 12 lucky readers will win every item featured in the jam-packed gift guide as part of the “12-Day Holiday Give-O-Way” sweepstakes.

The 2011 O list includes picks from Winfrey, plus items loved by friends and contributors Gayle King, Dr. Oz, Suze Orman and more. Winfrey’s favorites to “comfort mind and body” include scented candles ($45), a bottle of Jay-Z’s favorite champagne ($300) and Marigot Collection’s pajamas and cashmere robe ($234 and $412). King’s “cheery delicious gifts” include seven-layer caramel cake ($46) and a python-print wheeled carry-on bag ($108).

“I love to give and get monogrammed gifts,” King tells PEOPLE. “It instantly makes it ‘personal.’ Personal means it was bought or made with you and mind.” And her advice for holiday shopping? “Shop early,” she suggests. “I so admire the people that are done with all their shopping by mid-December! That’s normally when I’m getting started.”
