Eva Amurri’s Wedding Gown: All the Details!

11/03/2011 at 10:30 AM ET

When Eva Amurri began planning her Charleston wedding to Kyle Martino, the pieces all fell effortlessly into place — every piece but her dress, that is.

She tried on numerous white gowns, but “they didn’t feel like me,” she told PEOPLE in September. “I just felt like my head was stuck on a different girl’s body.” But after some tireless Internet searching, Amurri believed she’d finally found her dream dress. “I just fell in love with it,” she said.

The bride asked designer Lela Rose to create a breathtaking look for her big day, using the satin-faced silk “The Woods” gown with three-dimensional lace yolk and low back as her base. For a personal touch, Amurri and Martino’s wedding date was embroidered in the lining in pale blue, for the bride’s ‘something blue.’

Amurri commissioned Rose to make mom Susan Sarandon’s mother-of-the-bride dress, too; she produced a silk faille sheath that also featured a three-dimensional lace neckline. “Eva loved the idea of them sharing a design detail,” Rose tells PEOPLE. “The three-dimensional lace seemed so fitting for both and gave a nod to their close relationship.”

Though all eyes were on the bride — who paired her dress with kitten heels she found online for $80 — the groom had his own dapper getup, as well. “Kyle’s tux is gorgeous,” Amurri adds. “Brioni made it especially for him.”

But nothing could compare to seeing Amurri walk down the aisle in her custom gown. “Working with Eva and Susan was an honor. I was well aware of their talent and beauty but their incredible graciousness made the experience one I will not soon forget,” Rose shares. “And when Eva put on the gown, of course she was stunning but you could immediately see how comfortable she was. She felt like the most beautiful version of her everyday self. Once we made a few tweaks, the gown was undeniably her.”

“I love my wedding dress,” adds Amurri. “It was just perfect for me, and already feels like it would be hanging in my closet. I loved it from the moment I tried it on.”

I LOVE Susan Sarandon’s dress!!!!!

Toni on

I think it is so tacky that Susan is wearing a dress so similar to her daughter’s. Even if everyone is ok with it, it steals a little of the bride’s thunder. Just who’s big day is it anyways?

Guarin on

Her dress is beautiful than Kim Kardarhian.

janet on

No matter how nice the mother of the bride’s dress may be, it cannot make a Catholic-bashing, nauseating big mouth liberal bigot like Susan Sarandon attractive in any way.

sophie on

Sorry but there is nothing special about the wedding dress or the bride. Yawn.

Guarin on

Her dress is more simple than Kim.

Guarin on

Kim wore 3 wedding dresses! What a joke!

ljchicago on

Finally, a wedding gown that is not strapless. So few women can wear strapless well.

amy on

I agree Janet…I don’t care for Susan Sarandon at all…her mouth has gotten her in trouble too many times. With that aside, the dresses are pretty on their own merit. Can’t harm the designers for who their customers are.

Denise Smith on

I think her gown is beautiful and I’m thrilled to see it is not strapless.

MJ on

@ Toni- Did you bother to read the story? It says that “Amurri commissioned Rose to make mom Susan Sarandon’s mother-of-the-bride dress, too; she produced a silk faille sheath that also featured a three-dimensional lace neckline. “Eva loved the idea of them sharing a design detail,” Rose tells PEOPLE. “The three-dimensional lace seemed so fitting for both and gave a nod to their close relationship.” If this is what Eva wanted, what is the problem. As stunning as she looks in her wedding dress, I hardly think Susan’s dress took anything away from the bride. If anything, it compliments the bride’s taste and certainly stresses how very important her mom is to her. Just sayin’

Monkey Supervisor on

How lovely the bride looks! I, personally, like that her Susan’s dress has similar detailing and I really love that it was requested by the bride herself. Congratulations to Eva and Kyle. Many lifetimes of happiness to the both of you.

Tammy on

I think Eva’s dress is gorgeous and I think it’s so cool how her and her mom’s dress compliment each other.

Lisa on

I LOVE both dresses. I loved how her mother’s dress was designed to coordinate with her. They look beautiful. (Loving the lace looks on wedding gowns these days…)

Klee on

I love both of their dresses. Very tasteful and elegant. The only change for me is that Ms. Sarandon should have worn a clear bra strap instead of nude. It showed up in the picture. Beautiful women.

Dee on

I also think the dress is beautiful and the idea that a design element was shared between mother and daughter was very special! I don’t think the bride was ‘upstaged’ in any way.

LM on

Wow, she looks smashing as a brunette. Generally I think celebs look better blonde, but she definately should stay with the dark hair. Very elegant.

Lola on

I think Eva is an unconventional beauty just like her mother. The dresses are gorgeous.

Jen on

Ditto janet’s comment

JDK on

I love her wedding dress and I don’t think it’s tacky at all for Ms. Sarandon’s dress to compliment her daughter. As the article stated, her daughter was thrilled that her mother’s dress complimented her own to show the closeness they share. The bride commissioned the dress herself. As for the bride, I think she is beautiful. One of those women with a look that makes you do a double take when she walks in a room. Elegant and simply stunning!

Anita on

Wow, Eva is just beautiful and Susan looks fantastic. Congrats to Eva and her new husband. Too bad this not the cover of this week’s People magazine. I’d much rather see Eva in her dress over a rehash of Kim.

Diane Burtnett on

I think Eva is absolutely stunning. Her gown is perfect for her. Classy and elegant. Wishing her and her new husband many happy years together.

danielle on

I love Eva’s dress. She looks soo beautiful. Very elegant and classy. It’s so nice to hear that she didnt walk down the aisle in $1,000 shoes and wear like 3 dresses. She just seems normal. Thank Goodness!

Maggie on

both women are stunning!

November on

Wow. What a stunning dress on a stunning bride.
Susan looks beautiful too.

Congratulations

souschef on

The bride looks very pretty! I agree that it’s nice to see someone wearing something other than the usual strapless number. I think Ms. Sarandon’s dress was flattering and age appropriate. She tends to wear a lot of cleavage revealing gowns and I think this was a great choice for her.

DotsMom on

Not a fan of lefty Susan Sarandon but I must say she is better looking than her daughter…YUCK!

suzy diamond on

Bride looks beautiful. Love the dress. Hate her old lady. She’s a crackpot and bigot! The daughter needs to distance herself!

Kim on

Tony- did you not read the article? It was the bride who commissioned the designer to make her mother’s dress and loved the idea of them sharing the design detail. It’s her wedding, not yours!

Lisaj0418 on

I don’t care what the hater think..Susan you and your daughter look beautiful.. You daughter is stunning..and you look wonderful. I think it is a tribute to you that she wanted you to look similar to her..Kudos to you and her and for your relationship. I really hope you enjoyed the day…both of you. Thank you for having the class to not “sell your story” or “cash in” on the big day. God bless you and Eva and thank you for sharing you big day. So many people think it is a god given right for the public to bash the “stars”..but you have grace and dignity..and you both look wonderful. Pity on the rest of you..Go hate on the Kim for her farse of a wedding..and for that idiot Jessica Simpson for trying to sell her “knocked up before married” story…ugh what has America come to??

NM on

@Toni-Did you read what the article said? Eva had that dress made for her mother, to match the three dimentional lace. So, apparently she didn’t think it was tacky! What part of this did you not see?

“Amurri commissioned Rose to make mom Susan Sarandon’s mother-of-the-bride dress, too; she produced a silk faille sheath that also featured a three-dimensional lace neckline. “Eva loved the idea of them sharing a design detail,”

suzyQ on

Toni, your comment is ridiculous. Are you incapable of reading? “Eva loved the idea of them sharing a design detail.” The bride WANTED it, so I hardly think that it is a case of anyone stealing anyone’s thunder.

And Janet, based upon your comment (“No matter how nice the mother of the bride’s dress may be, it cannot make a Catholic-bashing, nauseating big mouth liberal bigot like Susan Sarandon attractive in any way,”) I would suggest that perhaps you are not as Christian as you think you are.

katie on

Wow, there’s a lot of hate for an article about a wedding dress! A dress that I think is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! Both dresses are really great; love them both. I think Susan’s dress is different enough but it fits with the theme. How many times do you see the bride’s and bridal party’s dresses matchy-matchy?

Donna on

Beautiful gown for a beautiful bride. Susan’s dress is lovely, too.

christi on

What a beautiful picture, a beautiful lady and a beautiful gown. I love it! I am so tired of seeing strapless wedding dresses.

Miriam on

She looks gorgeous and so much like her mother in this picture. I wish people would stop comparing her to Kim K. That wedding was a joke and should be silenced to death.

Brooke on

Just what a beautiful gown and equally beautiful mother-daughter pair.

Billy on

“So many people think it is a god given right for the public to bash the “stars””

As does Sarandon herself, who thinks it’s her right to bash other public figures. She gets what she gives. It’s silly to whine that people are bashing her while letting her bash someone else.

Sara on

Looks like Kate Middleton inspired her dress. It’s very similar just short-sleeved.
It is beautiful though, and Susan Sarandon looks great.

Shar on

The bride looks beautiful; elegant and fresh. Her mom looks lovely.

Sunny on

I hope Tim Robbins got an invite…

Amy on

I think this is a stunning combination! Very classy and gorgeous for both women.

look on

Hank Williams Jr. gets fired for comparing obama to hitler but susan sarandon gets the Top Story on people.com after calling the Pope a Nazi. So glad my subscription is up.

Monkey Supervisor on

Sunny,… I believe I read somewhere that Tim Robbins co-hosted the wedding with Susan having been a big part of Eva’s live growing up.

Monkey Supervisor on

Oops.. I meant “life” not live.

elsa caceres on

she looks original!… and classy… hope her marriage works

they are both stunningly gorgeous! the dresses are amazing

Karen on

Love the dress, but it’s a YOKE, not YOLK.

nelson on

Did the author really write “yolk?” Really?

Jill K on

I can’t believe some people on here are saying that Eva isn’t pretty! Clean your glasses people! LOL. I think they’re both very pretty and I love the dresses and like that they are similiar to eachother. They must be very close.

Lisa on

Both ladies and their dresses are absolutely beautiful, elegance personified. That the dresses were requested to contain matching elements to reflect the closeness of their relationship is a heartfelt touch, too. As for the badmouthing haters, go crawl back under your rocks.

Cinder's mom on

Both of these dresses are exquisite. Not sure I would have picked black for the MOB, but that’s the bride’s choice. Classy, sleek and very sexy. Nice job, everybody.

Cinder's mom on

LOL @ Nelson. Right. The word is yoke.

Beth on

YOKE. NOT YOLK!

Krista on

Wow, they look amazing! I absolutely LOVE Eva’s dress. She looks stunning!

Lizzy on

WHO CARES !!

S on

Janet…I agree!

Kim on

I kind of agree with Toni. I don’t think it’s tacky considering the daughter “okay-ed” it, but I couldn’t do it either. Both women are beautiful, both dresses are beutiful, but there’s no way I would want my mother’s dress to resemble my wedding dress so much. My wedding dress is supposed to be the unique dress in the room.

Sonya on

I love both dresses! I have to agree with what someone else said- all woman cannot and should not wear strapless wedding gowns! I know it is in-vogue, but get real. If you are weigh 500 pounds, you probably should not wear a strapless gown.

bluebuns on

pretty bride

JulieB on

I think mother and daughter look simply stunning.

Marcia on

Her dress is beautiful. She has a very long, elegant neck and a strapless dress wouldn’t have given her the right proportions. Well done.

Stefanie Holler on

BEAUTIFUL!

Terri on

Janet – There’s nothing worse than a big mouthed, conservative bigot who has nothing nice to say. If you don’t like Susan Sarandon because she has different political views than you do, don’t read articles about her or her family.

dawn s on

I love the matching gowns… I have never seen them look more beautiful…best of luck to them

Dawn on

I love the look…the matching dresses but different…very stunning!! They both look beautiful!! I think it’s a class act.

Christina on

I like both dresses! I think they both look radiant in this picture.

Just My Opinion on

BEAUTIFUL!!

Just My Opinion on

@Toni, Susan’s daughter had the designer of her wedding dress to make her mother’s dress for the wedding. If the bride didn’t have a problem with it, neither should you. Now we know your mother’s dress won’t or didn’t look like your wedding dress.

Your Favorite Hag on

Magnificient…Eva and Susan look spectacular!

Ellie on

Stunning. I love the way the dresses complement one another without stealing the bride’s thunder. Well done!

WOW!! What a beautiful bride. Very regal and elegant. I agree with other posts that everyone usually chooses a strapless gown and this look is beautiful. I too love that the mother of the brides dress shares a little something with the bride’s dress. How very special. and I’m sure it will last longer than 72 days ;)

ERH on

Beautiful! I agree with what others have said about avoiding strapless gowns. Very few women can pull it off because if a woman is anything more than thin then you’re either going to have to leave it a little loose and pull on the top all night or tighten it and have a bit of a muffin top effect.

KJF on

Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. Both of you. Now THIS is a classy bride and classy mother of the bride. That is all.

Sherron on

I’m so glad to finally see someone who is not in a strapless gown!! She looks beautiful and it sounds like she is not over the top like that ridiculous SHAM Kardashian wedding! I think the fact that she wanted part of her Mom’s dress to be similar to hers is lovely.

And to JANET this is still America and FREE SPEECH is still live and well no thanks to narrow minded asses like you!

Nancy on

Absolutely stunning gowns; very classy!!

sharon on

The bride and the dress are stunning. Love the dress!

Leslee on

From what I can tell, the bridesmaids wore the same fabric as Susan Sarandon while Susan shared the lace detailing with her daughter. I think that’s lovely and I am so glad they are so close to enjoy that.

The back of Eva’s dress is a deep plunging V of the same beautiful lace covering her shoulders and decolletage. It really is a wonderful look.

Krisann on

Nice tasteful dresses and they are very flattering to them. Sorry to notice but while Susan Sarandon’s face looks “great”… her neck and arms definitely show her age.

elsa caceres on

i agree with the person who stated… that Eva and hubby should be on the cover…and it is sweet that mother and daughter complement each other… just do not get it…when people are full of hatred … they have issues

Mia on

Gorgeous, both of them, simply beautiful! She looks so much like her Mom!

Frida_K on

My, what a beautiful bride she is! I’ll bet her mother is so proud.

Best wishes to you, Eva Amurri!

Mary on

@Toni;
It was clearly stated in the article that EVA wanted her mothers dress to look like her’s because of their close relationship. For that reason it is not tacky at all. What the bride wants the bride gets! I think Eva looks absolutely stunning, one of the more beautiful brides I’ve ever seen. Nothing was overdone and she is just radiant. The dress is simple and beautiful. KK could learn a few things from Eve.

Wu on

I LOVE Susan’s dress!!! Great colour on her and I think that’s a wonderful idea to have a similar design feature in both of their dresses. Lookin’ good, ladies!

Jane on

It IS gorgeous, absolutely beautiful, wish we could see the back of it! Her mom’s dress is awesome too, they both look absolutely beautiful. I think she is one of the prettiest, most well-put together, classiest, stunning brides I have ever seen.

suzy diamond on

The bride looks beautiful! Did she walk down the aisle of a Catholic church? I hope not because her idiot mother Susan Sarandon couldn’t have been there after calling our Catholic Pope a NAZI! Because that’s exactly what she said. Good ole Susan, always the bigot, always the racist pig.

KathyC on

I think the Bride looks absolutely stunning. The dress is breathtaking. Susan Sarandan looks beautiful too.

I just absolutely love the Bridal Gown.

Regarding the Pope, he WAS a member of the Hitler Youth, so what else would you call him?

I just don’t see why it matters. You know her politics and you don’t like it. Okay, well think of all the actors who keep those things to themselves or parrot what their publicists tell them to. Do you really think you share the same opinions as all your favorite actors? More likely is you don’t, you just don’t know that you don’t. It’s important enough to you that you would hate SS for her opinions, but not so important that you won’t pull your head out of the sand. Hypocrites.

Someone asked if Tim Robbins got an invite–in the magazine, he and Susan walked the bride down the aisle. He helped raise her, so yes, he was there. Also, they have pics in the magazine not shown on here and she (Eva) looked stunning–this is a slightly off pic of her face (above) but she is gorgeous in the pics in People. I think it was rather cool that she wanted to have her mom’s dress have a matching element to hers. They looked beautiful.

And someone else said, she had a lot of nerve to wear white what with all the nude scenes she’s done–that’s called acting, dear, it’s not real. You have no idea what kind of person Eva is in “real life.” Nor do I but I’m not judging her on nude scenes in MOVIES which have nothing to do with everyday life.
